Friday at Gulfstream: Four Races on Turf; Nicks and Sano Vie for Trainer's Title.

Friday Oct. 2 –Gulfstream Park  will have 11 races  today with first post time of 1:15 p.m.

The main track is fast and the turf course is listed as firm.   Four races are scheduled for turf.

There are no stakes races. One attraction will be the still-close race for the trainer’s championship between Ralph Nicks and Antonio Sano.

Today is the second-to-last day of Gulfstream’s summer meet that began July 1.

On meet-closing day tomorrow, Gulfstream will have six stakes races–including the third and final races in the four divisions of the Florida Sire Stakes Series.  We will have previews of the Sire Stakes races this afternoon and tomorrow morning.

This coming Wednesday, Gulfstream will begin its second  Gulfstream Park West meet  at Calder.  The meet will be 40 days, Wednesdays through Sundays. and  end on Nov. 29.  First post will be 1:15 p.m. during October, and a to-be-determined time in November.

*Tyler Gaffalione rode four winners on Thursday,  increasing his meet-leading total to 78.  Eddie Castro  rode one winner, and is second in  the standings with  53.

*Nicks had one winner yesterday and Sano  had two. With two  days  left in  the meet, Nicks  leads Sano,  33-29.  Nicks has three entries today and six tomorrow. Sano has five entries today and three tomorrow.

* Gulfstream’s  all-sources handle for yesterday’s 11 races was $4,631,828.   There were 93 starters, for an  average of 8.5 per race.

Our preliminary research indicates that for its summer meet Gulfstream’s daily average all-sources handle has been about $4.5 million  and average starters per race has been around 8.5.  For last year’s summer meet the averages were about  $3.5  million and 9.2 starters per  race.

This summer, Gulfstream’s daily  handle has generally been third  in  the country–trailing  Belmont or Saratoga in  New York State and Santa  Anita or Del Mar in  California.
