Thursday at Gulfstream: Summer Meet Resumes Today, Closes With Sire Stakes on Saturday

HorseracingFLA Staff Report

Thursday,  Oct. 1  — Gulfstream Park on Thursday will   begin the three final days of its 2015 summer meet.

First  post time is 1:15 p.m. on  both Thursday and Friday, with eleven races  each day. There  are no stakes races  either day.

FSS_-Oct-3-300x250_cube_2logos_un40kSaturday’s  meet-closing card will have six stakes races, including the final  races in each of the four divisions of the Florida  Sire Stakes Series.  First post on Saturday will be at 12:45  p.m.

Next Wednesday,  Gulfstream will  begin  its Gulfstream  Park  West meet at Calder where it will have  40 days of racing through Nov. 29.

*  On  Sunday, three of the last five races were won by horses at double digit odds.

That made picking  winners even more difficult than usual.

As a consequence,  the Rainbow 6  jackpot was  taken  down  by a single ticket-holder–for $130,712.80.  That  followed ten  days in which  there  were multiple winning tickets, and a growing carryover.

Meanwhile, there were no tickets with  all five winners in the Pick 5.  All  tickets with four winners paid $277.95.

Thus, there will be a carryover of $20,590 on Thursday in  the Pick 5.  It is  a 50 cent minimum bet on  the day’s last five races, with a 15 percent takeout.

Gulfstream  today will begin  a new pool in the Rainbow 6,  which requires  picking the winners of each of the last six races. It is a 20-cent only per combination bet.

Rainbow 6 betting likely will  be in  the $20,000  to $30,000 range today and tomorrow.

It  could surge to at least $200,000  on Saturday when, due to  Florida racing regulations, Gulfstream will be  required  to make a meet-closing day payout of the full pool (day’s bets plus carryover) even  if there are multiple winning tickets,

Gulfstream  generally pays out the full Rainbow 6  pool (day’s bets plus carryover)  only on days  when there is just one ticket with  all six winners.  On other days, it pays out 70  percent  of  the day’s Rainbow 6  bets  (minus the 20 percent takeout) among  multiple winning tickets.  It puts  the remaining 30 percent into the carryover.Tyler Gaffalione 4wins2

* Tyler Gaffalione is heading  into the summer meet’s  final weekend  with 74 wins and an insurmountable lead in the jockey standings.  Eddie Castro  is  second with 52,  followed  by Jonathan  Gonzales with 42.

Ralph Nicks  leads trainers  with  32 wins,  and  Antonio  Sano  is second with  27.
