Katie’s Kiss, the 2-1 favorite, caught 12-1 shot My Sweet Dove in the final strides to win Saturday’s feature race at the Gulfstream Park West meet at Calder.
The race, loaded with stakes veterans, was a $50,000 allowance at five furlongs on turf for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up.
Katie’s Kiss was ridden by Eddie Castro and won in 56.52 seconds. It was the fastest time yet at five furlongs on turf in the GP West meet, now in its fourth day. Jonathan Gonzales rode My Sweet Dove for trainer Marty Wolfson.
The victory was the fourth in 12 starts and second stakes win for the 3-year old Katie’s Kiss, trained by David Fawkes. On Aug. 16, she won the five furlong Summer Winds at five furlongs on turf at Gulfstream Park.
The $2 exacta paid $61.00.
