A mandatory jackpot payout attracted $5,474,357 in wagers on Gulfstream Park's Rainbow 6 on Sunday.
It was the fourth time that the popular multi-race bet has surpassed $5 million, all on mandatory payouts, during Gulfstream's 2020-2021championship meet.
And with all winning horses coming in at odds of 6-1or lower, an unprecedented number of tickets had all six winners.
Each of those tickets won $1,140.92 on a 20-cent bet. As detailed below, HorseRacingFLA's research indicates there were 4,604 such tickets.
After being dark on Monday and Tuesday, Gulfstream will begin a new Rainbow 6 pool on Wednesday.
First post will be 1:10 p.m. for a ten-race card.
The Rainbow 6 will be on races five to ten. The sequence is scheduled to start at 3:11 p.m. on the 20 cents per combination-only bet.
Gulfstream is guaranteeing that the Rainbow 6 pool will be at least $150,000 if there is just one ticket with all six winners.
In its news release on Sunday's results, Gulfstream reported that there were "multiple tickets" with all six winning horses in the Rainbow 6. Per usual, its news release did not provide the number of tickets.
HorseRacingFLA's review of Equibase charts indicates there were 4,604 winning Rainbow 6 tickets. Our data base that goes back to August 2015 shows that was the most winning tickets ever on a mandatory Rainbow 6 payout day. It was among the the ten highest in the entire data base.
Program numbers of the six winning horses, in races six to eleven, were 3-7-6-3-9-2.
Because Sunday was a "mandatory" day Gulfstream divided the Rainbow 6 jackpot among all tickets with six winners.
The jackpot consists of 80 percent of the day's new Rainbow 6 bets plus the entire coming-in carryover. The bet has a 20 percent takeout.
Gulfstream usually pays out the jackpot only on days when there is just one ticket with all six winners.
For mandatory payout days, which it usually begins publicizing three days in advance on its Web site and in racing publications, Gulfstream makes that payout no matter the number of tickets with six winners.
For Sunday's card, the coming-in carryover was $873,676. Gulfstream combined all of that carryover and 80 percent of the new bet into a pool that totaled $5,253,562. It then divided that money among the more than 4,600 winning tickets.
On most day with multiple winning tickets, Gulfstream takes out 20 percent then divides 56 percent of the day's bet among tickets and adds 24 percent to the carryover.
The Rainbow 6 carryover for Sunday had grown over ten days with multiple winning tickets.
