BAUER'S BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

By Bob Bauer

First post is 12:15 p.m. for Wednesday's nine-race card at Tampa Bay Downs.

The first race has  carryover of $6,565 on the Super Hi-5.

It is a $5,000 claiming race at six furlongs on dirt for 4-YOs and up that have not won a race since Sept. 1, 2020.  There are eight entrants.

The Pick 6 has a carryover of $14,945.  The 20 cents per combination-only bet is on races three to nine, with the sequence scheduled to start at 1:45 p.m.

Today's feature is Race 5, Post time is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. A compact but competitive field of older Fillies and Mares will travel a grassy mile under $32,000 NW2X Optional Claiming conditions.

RadioStPete live coverage, including the call of legendary announcer Richard Grunder starts at 2:13.

DUTCHESS OF SUSSEX (7) from the Graham Motion barn, one of the top turf outfits in the country, is the choice here. This classy four year old Filly was last seen wiring a NW1X Allowance field here at Tampa, earning the top turf fig in this group. Her prior turf attempt was a good second in an overnight Stake at Deleware park. She has been rested for a month and goes a flat mile here, half a furlong less than her last victory. A lot to like here. But as a namesake to Meghan Markle, it is doubtful that we will see this one at Royal Ascot some day.

THE BET   $20 to win DUTCHESS OF SUSSEX (7) and a $5 exacta box with NO WAY JOSE (1) 1,7. Also a $2 exacta box with LADY FATIMA (2) 1,2,7.   Total Bet $42  GOOD LUCK
