Tampa Bay: Nine Friday Races, First Post 12:47; Camacho Wins Three in Wednesday Opener

HRFLA Staff Report

Tampa Bay Downs will have nine aces on Friday, with first post at 12:47 p.m.

The only carryover is on the Pick 6, at $2,107. The 20-cents  per combination-only bet is on races four to nine, with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:20  p.m.

Tampa Bay opened its 2020-2021 meet on Wednesday, and then was dark on Thursday (Thanksgiving).

Samy Camacho rode three winners on Wednesday gaining a jump in what likely will be another close competition with Antonio Gallardo and Daniel Centeno.  Gallardo rode one winner on Wednesday, and Centeno was winless.

In 2018-2019, Camacho led Tampa Bay jockeys with 123 wins over 90  days.

Last season, Gallardo was first with 122 wins--followed by Camacho with 99 and Centeno with 96.

Gerald Bennett, last season's winning trainer, saddled two winners.

In the fourth race, Bennett and Camacho teamed to win with Perfetto, the 2-1 favorite.

Canacho spent the past two months riding at the Gulfstream Park West meet, held at Calder  in Miami Gardens, Fla. He had 26 wins, placing him fifth at that meet that will close on Saturday.

Saturday will be the last day of thoroughbred racing at Calder, which has had racing since 1971. Calder ad its parent Churchill Downs Inc. are not renewing the lease under which Gulfstream Park has held an October-November meet since 2014.

Tampa Bay will have ten races on Saturday, with first post of 12:22 p.m. It will be dark on Sunday, and then resume racing next Wednesday Dec. 2.
