Casse Wins 3,000th, With Souper Watson to Start Rainbow 6

Trainer Mark Casse won his 3,000th career race on Thursday, with a victory by Souper Watson in the third race at Gulfstream Park West.

Casse has trained numerous graded stakes winners in the United States and Canada.  That list includes Sir Winston in the 2019 Belmont Stakes and War of Will in the 2019 Preakness Stakes.

For several seasons he had kept a string of horses year-round at the Palm Meadows training center in Boynton Beach, Fla., using it as his main winter base. Working with his son Norman, he frequently runs horses at Gulfstream Park, Tampa Bay Downs and GP West.

Thursday's third race was the start of the 20-cent-only Rainbow 6. It was a $46,000 MSW race at 7 1/2 furlongs on turf for 3-YO and up.

The carryover coming in was $158,270.  Bettors added $90,587 to the pool.

Souper Watson (6) went off at 7-1 and won by two lengths over stablemate Souper Energizer.  Both horses are homebreds of Live Oak Plantation.

Miguel Vasquez rode Souper Watson. Paco Lopez rode Souper Energizer for trainer Michael Trombetta.
