Gulfstream Off Turf for Friday's Race Card; Rainbow 6 and Veteran Trev in Spotlight

Due to rain overnight and in the morning, there will be no turf racing at Gulfstream Park on Friday.

First post was at 12:00 p.m.

The first, third, fifth, seventh and ninth races were scheduled for turf. Those races have been moved to the dirt track, which is listed as Sloppy and is sealed.

As of 12.00 p.m. no rain was falling at or in the area around Gulfstream in Hallandale Beach, Fla.

The Weather Channel forecast is for the chance of rain to increase from  20 percent to 55 percent during racing hours--and rain is expected to be heavy at times.

A Rainbow 6 carryover that has grown to $206,605 and the return of the 10-year-old Trev, seeking his sixth straight victory. will be highlights.

The Rainbow 6 will be on races four to nine, with the sequence scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. It is a 20-cents per combination-only bet.

Gulfstream is guaranteeing that Friday's Rainbow 6 jackpot pool will be at least $350,000 if there is just one ticket with all six winning horses. Such a ticket would take down the jackpot of the full carryover plus 80 percent of the day's new Rainbow 6 bet.

Return of Trev

Trev is among seven remaining entrants in the featured eighth race--an allowance/optional claiming race at six furlongs on dirt.

It is restricted to Florida-breds 3-YO and up that have: not won a race other than maiden, claiming or starter; not won more than one race; or can be claimed out of the race.

Trev is entered for the tag.  Joseph Trejos will ride him for trainer Georgina Baxter and owner Asterace LLC.

Trev, a gelded son of Exclusive Quality, won his previous five races by a cmobined 27 1/4 lengths. Four were at Gulfstream, and one was at Tampa Bay Downs.

He began his win streak on April 12, 2019.

Trev came off a five-month layoff to win his 2020 debut by two lengths on May 20, He entering Friday’s race off a layoff of nearly four months.

The May 20 race was an optional claimer, scheduled for five furlongs on turf at Gulfstream.

Trev was entered as main track only. The race was moved to a sloppy dirt track. Trev took the lead at second call and pulled away to win by 2 1/2 lengths.

Trev has won 15 of 41 career starts. He has won ten of 21 races on the Gulfstream dirt.  He has won six of nine races on dirt tracks that were not listed as Fast.

Trev, who has had most of his wins gate-to-wire, has the far outside post and that should help Trejos guide him to a  clean trip in a field that has several  other speed horses.

Northern, one of the horses with early  speed, was scratched on Friday morning by order of a vet.

Septemberten and Arrivederla, trained by Rohan  Crichton for different owners, appear to be top threats to  Trev.

Arrivederla has shown early speed in several races Septemberten likely will be gaining in the stretch.

Scheduled post for the eighth race is 3:40 pm.

We will have coverage on this blog.

Rainbow 6

On Thursday, morning rain led Gulfstream to move all three scheduled-for-turf races to the dirt track, which was listed as Fast.

Tickets with all six winners in the Rainbow 6 paid  $400.32 on a 20 cent bet on Thursday.

HorseRacingFLA's review of Equibase charts shows there were 164 such tickets.

Program numbers of the winning horses were 10-1-4-5-5-4.

Three of the winners were favorites and all winners were 5-1 or lower.

Two of the off the turf races, the fourth and fifth, were in the Rainbow 6.

Nichren (10) won the fourth race at 5-2, and Bridologist (4) won the sixth race at 6-5.

Wagering on Thursday's Rainbow 6 was $116,997.

Of that, Gulfstream took out 20 percent and then divided 56 percent among the tickets with  six winners and added 24 percent to the carryover.
