Tyler Gaffalione rode
three winners at Gulfstream Park on Friday, following a four-victory day on Thursday
at the Hallandale Beach., Fla. track.
On Saturday, he will
be at Penn National in Wyomissing, Pa., to ride Bronson in the $500,000 Penn Mile (Grade 3).
The race is on turf for 3-year-olds. It is the ninth race, with a 7:45 p.m.
scheduled post.
Bronson comes into the
race off a win in the $75,000 English Channel Stakes at Gulfstream on May
6. The son of Medaglia d’Oro won the 1 1/16-mile turf stakes
in 1:41.26—a solid time for a 3-year-old—on the course listed as firm.
Edgard Zayas rode
Bronson that day for trainer Todd Pletcher and owner Calumet Farm.
Gaffalione was at
Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky., riding Patch to a 14th place
finish in the Kentucky Derby for Pletcher and Mathis Stable.
Big Score and Bronson
are likely favorites in the ten-horse Penn Mile field.
Big Score, a
son of Mr. Big, won the Transylvania
Stakes (Grade 3) at 1 1/16 miles on turf at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky., on April
17. Javier Castellano will ride Big Score for trainer George Weaver.
Through Friday,
Gaffalione leads Gulfstream jockeys with 75 wins, in 246 starts, in the spring
meet. Second through fifth in wins at the meet are: Zayas 52; Emisael Jaramillo
35; Luca Panici 29; and Miguel
Vasquez 25.
Gaffalione will be
back at Gulfstream on Sunday. He is
listed on eight mounts in the 11-race card.
