Moonshine Cate, at 6-, won Wednesday's fourth race at Gulfstream to start the Rainbow 6.
Bettors wagered $148,964 on the Rainbow 6, which is a 20-cent per combination only bet
The carryover, now into its 26th day, is $698,499 for today.
The fourth race was moved from the turf to the dirt track that is sealed and listed as sloppy. The fifth and ninth (final) races also will be moved from turf to dirt.
Rain has been intermittent at Gulfstream during the afternoon, following heavy rain on Tuesday and overnight.
There were 42 starters in the Rainbow 6 races.
To go ALL in every race would have cost $18,144. That is a little steep, even for syndicates and so-called whales.
But here is a wager we expect some deep-pockets bettors made.
To single the favorite R Angel Katelyn in the eighth race, the $50,000 Liza Jane Handicap, would have cost $4,536.
That race is 6 1/2 furlongs on dirt for 3-year-old fillies. Following three scratches, it is down to a four-horse field.
