Going into Friday's races at Gulfstream Park, defending champion Edgard Zayas leads the spring / summer meet jockey standings with 103 victories.
Emisael Jaramillo is in second place with 100 wins, through Sunday Aug. 22.
Those two jockeys have been in a close competition since the meet began on April 1.
Friday will be 75th day of the meet that is scheduled to have 92 days and close on Sept. 26.
Others in the top five and their win totals are: Miguel Angel Vasquez, 78; Edwin Gonzalez, 63; and Samy Camacho 45.
Gonzalez, in his first season at Gulfstream, returned to race riding last weekend after he missed 20 days with a hairline fracture in his right leg.
He sustained that injury in a race at Gulfstream on July 3.
Gonzalez rode three winners at Gulfstream last Saturday, his first day back, and had one winner on Sunday.
Gulfstream will have ten races on Friday, with first post of 2:00 p.m.
Jaramillo and Vasquez are each listed on mounts in eight races. Zayas has mounts in five races and Gonzalez has mounts in three races.
Gonzalez is a 29-year-old native of Puerto Rico. He led jockeys in wins at Penn National in Grantville, Pa., in 2019 and 2020.
Gulfstream's 2020 spring/summer meet had 107 race days. Zayas won the jockey championship with 137 victories and was followed by Vasquez with 127 and Jaramillo with 120.
Trainer Standings
Defending champion Saffie Joseph Jr. has 61 wins through last Sunday, putting him first in the standings with a huge lead over Carlos David who has 28 wins.
Antonio Sano and Victor Barboza Jr. each have 22 victories and are tied for third place.
On Saturday Aug, 21, Zayas and Joseph combined for the victory with the colt Eldon's Prince in the $75,000 Proud Man Stakes at Gulfstream .
Eldon's Prince beat Winging It by six lengths in the one-mile turf race for 2-year-olds. The Ontario-bred son of Cairo Prince took the lead entering the stretch and pulled away to win in 1:36.79 on the course listed as Firm. At 2-1, he was the second betting choice in the field of seven horses.
Eldon's Prince is owned by Gentry Racing and was bred by William Graham,
The Proud Man was the second career start for Eldon's Prince.
On Aug. 1 at Gulfstream, he finished second to On Thin Ice in a maiden special weight race at 7 1/2 furlongs on turf.
Owner Standings
Through Sunday, Arindel leads the owner standings with twelve winners.
Jacks or Better Farm and Moshe Mark each have eight victories and are tied for second place.
Defending champion Stonehege LLC, Frank Carl Calebrese and Soldi Stable each have seven wins and are tied for fourth place.
Arindel is owned by the family of Alan Cohen, the former majority owner of the Floridan Panthers.
Stonehege is owned by Gil and Marilyn Campbell. Jacks or Better is owned by Fred and Jane Brei.
