HRFLA Staff Report
Choose Joy beat Bernie's Mistress by a length in Sunday's $60,000 Village of Biscayne Park Handicap at Gulfstream Park.
The race was five furlongs on turf for fillies and mares 3-YO and up.
With Miguel Vasquez riding, Choose Joy won in 55.65 seconds on the course listed as Firm. She earned an Equibase Speed figure of 96 that tied her career best.
Steve Dwoskin owns and trains Choose Joy, a 4-year-old daughter of Munnings.
The win was Choose Joy's sixth in twelve career starts. Four of her wins have been in five-furlong turf stakes and handicaps at Gulfstream.
On Sunday, Choose Joy carried 125 pounds--seven more than any of her six rivals.
As the field entered the straightaway on Sunday, Choose Joy was in fourth place and Bernie's Mistress was fifth.
Choose Joy, the 2-5 favorite, passed the leader Cat's Astray about 50 yards from the wire. Bernie's Mistress, at 13-1, finished a neck ahead of Cat's Astray.
The Village of Biscayne Park was part of the Rainbow 6, on which each ticket with all six winning horses won $1,381.18 on a 20-cent bet. HorseRacingFLA's review of Equibase charts shows there were 80 tickets with all of the winners.
Program numbers of the winning horses, in races six to eleven, were 1-6-12-9-6-6.
Gulfstream's next live racing day will be this coming Friday Sept. 3--when the Rainbow 6 carryover will be $408,296.
The Hallandale Beach, Fla., track will have ten races with first post of 2:00 p.m.
The Rainbow 6 will be on races five to ten with the sequenced scheduled to start at 4:12 p.m.
Gulfstream is guaranteeing that the Rainbow 6 pool (new bets plus carryover) will be at least $600,000 if there is just one ticket with all six winning horses.
That ticket would take down the Rainbow 6 jackpot, which is made up of the entire carryover plus 80 percent of the day's new bet.
On Sunday, $196,324 was bet on the Rainbow 6. Following its rules for days with multiple winning tickets, Gulfstream took out 20 percent of that bet. It then divided 56 percent among the tickets with six winners and added 24 percent to the carryover.
Friday's first race will have a Super Hi-5 carryover of $6,950.
