The $75,000 Benny the Bull Stakes and Tropical Depression Fred are in the center of attention as Gulfstream Park heads into its Saturday races.
The Hallandale Beach, Fla., track has an eleven- race card with first post of 12:50 p.m. The featured tenth race is the Benny the Bull, at seven furlongs on dirt for Florida-breds that are 3-YO and up. Scheduled post is 5:56 p.m.
As of 10:15 a.m., skies were overcast but the morning had been rain-free at Gulfstream.
However, the National Hurricane Center is forecasting that between Saturday morning and Sunday night TD Fred will bring three or more inches of rain to the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area, which includes Hallandale Beach. The outlook is for thunder storms and other periods of heavy rain.
The forecast cone for Fred carries it northward through the Gulf of Mexico and the lower part of the Florida peninsula. Still rain and wind will extend outward to areas including southeast Florida.
