Gulfstream Starts Fast and Firm for Friday

The dirt track is listed as Fast and the turf is listed as Firm for Friday's nine-race card at Gulfstream Park.

First post time is 2:00 p.m. The first, fifth, seventh and ninth races are scheduled for turf.

Skies are clear at Gulfstream as of 11:45 a.m.

However, the Weather Channel forecast is for a 50 percent chance of rain during racing hours--when it is expected that Tropical Depression Fred will begin to impact the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area.

From Friday night through Saturday afternoon, the forecast is for rainfall of  up to six inches--even the center  of Fred likely will be in the  Gulf of Mexico.

The Saturday card has eleven races scheduled, with first post at 12:50 p.m. The featured tenth race is the Benny the Bull Stakes, at seven furlongs on Florida-breds that are 3-YO and up.

Later this afternoon, we will have additional reports on  the racing and the weather at Gulfstream.
