Weekend Preview: Churchill, Tampa, Gulfstream

HorseRacingFLA  will have daily coverage of this weekend's racing at Churchill Downs, Tampa Bay Downs and Gulfstream Park.

Here are details, with all listed times as Eastern.

Churchill 

First post is 10:30 a.m. for Friday's 13-race card, which has the $1.25 million Kentucky Oaks (Grade 1) and five other stakes races.

Conditions are listed as Fast and Firm, and the Weather Channel forecast is for a less than 10 percent chance of rain during racing hours.

The Kentucky Oaks will be Friday's eleventh race with scheduled post at 5:51 p.m. 


Search Results and Mathalaat, both unbeaten, and Crazy Beautiful, the come-from-behind winner of the Gulfstream Park Oaks (Grade 2) on March 27, are likely favorites in the Kentucky Oaks.


The race is 1 1/8 miles on dirt for 3-year-old fillies.

The NBC Sports cable channel will have  live coverage of Friday's Churchill racing from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.


Scheduled post for the 147th Kentucky Derby will be 6:57 p.m. on Saturday. It will be the 12th race on a 14-race card. 

The NBC Sports cable channel will have live coverage from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. NBC's over-the-air channels will have live coverage from 2:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Churchill Downs will not have racing on Sunday.


Tampa Bay

Track announcer Richard Grunder will retire following Sunday's race card, after 37 years at the Oldsmar, Fla., track.

Grunder's final race  call will be on the day's tenth and last race with scheduled post ar 5:18 p.m. The Sunday card has ten races, with first post at 12:32 p.m.

Tampa Bay will have nine races on Friday with first post at 12;15 p.m. It will have ten races on Saturday with first post of 12:12 p.m.

Tampa Bay will have simulcast wagering on Churchill Downs racing on Friday and Saturday.

Gulfstream

On Friday, Gulfstream has a nine-race card with first post at 12:50 p.m.

The Rainbow 6 has a carryover of $234,773. The 20 cents per-combination-only bet is on races four to nine with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:14 p.m.

On Saturday, Gulfstream will have 12 races with first post at 12:20 p.m,

The card has two stakes races, both with $75,000 purses.

The Big Drama is seven furlongs on dirt for Florida-breds 3-YO and up.

The Honey Ryder is 1 1/16 miles on turf for 3-YO fillies 

On Sunday, Gulfstream will have ten races with first post of 12:50 p.m.

Gulfstream will have simulcast betting on the Friday and Saturday  races at Churchill Downs.
