A nine-race card closes out the racing week in Tampa, with first post at 12:15 PM. Conditions are fast and firm.
The play for today is in Race 5, $10,000 Claiming four year-olds and up go a mile and forty yards on the main track. Post time is 2:17. RadioStPete online live coverage, including legendary announcer Richard Grunder, starts at 2:15.
EXCHECKER (6) appears to be tough to beat in this spot. Two races back, he was claimed away from top trainer Gerald Bennett for $8,000 in a winning effort. The very next race, Bennett claimed him back for $10,000. A sure sign of trainer intent is when he reclaims a horse for more money than the original claiming price. Mr. Bennett is an astute claiming conditioner and has been leading Tampa trainer for several years. This five year-old gelding is in fine fettle now, with two wins and a place from three starts this season in Oldsmar.
