Tampa Bay Downs presents a nine-race card for Wednesday, with conditions listed as Fast and Firm.
The feature is Race 5, Post time 2:17 PM. A very competitive group of sophomores will go a grassy mile under $75,000 Optional Claiming NW1X conditions. Live coverage on RadioStPete online, including legendary announcer Richard Grunder, starts at 2:15.
HEAT OF THE NIGHT (5) is a logical longshot who might surprise at 8/1 on the morning line. A lightly raced gelding (four starts), he won his debut vs. Maiden Special rivals at Gulfstream last September. Since then, he has been in a trio of Stakes events without success, as he was outclassed. He drops to a realistic level today (easiest since the Maiden win) and could turn a huge effort here. His figure from the local Columbia Stakes on March 6 is the best in this field. Alonso Quinonez rides for Tim Hamm.
