At HorseRacingFLA, we often take a rooting interest in a horse because of its name.
We have a special reason for that today in Gulfstream's seventh race, with scheduled post of 3:28 p.m.
The 3 horse is named Freer--same as our editor Jim Freer. There is no connection between Jim's family and the colt's owner Sunland Park, which paid $240,000 at the Keeneland September 2019 sale.
We will try to find out the origin of the name.
The seventh race is a $47,000 MSW at 7 1/2 furlongs on turf for 3-YOs. The course is listed as firm..
Freer is 12-1 in the morning line, He is one of six first-time starters in the 12-horse field.
Freer is a son of Bernardini, out of an Unbridled's Song mare. Edgar Prado will ride for Todd Pletcher,
Likely favorites are El Socio (12) and Everesting (1).
The seventh race is the start of the Rainbow 6 with a carryover of $103,072.
