GP West Has Two Large Thursday Carryovers

Here are details of the Gulfstream Park West meet's Thursday carryovers of $250,535 on the Rainbow 6 and of $17,975 on the first race's Super Hi-5.

First post is 1:00 p.m. for the eight-race card at Calder in Miami Gardens.

* Rainbow 6 -- $250,535; the 20-cent only bet will be on races three to eight with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.

On Wednesday there were only four tickets with the winners of all six Rainbow 6 races.  Each ticket  received $14,682.42 on the 20-cent only bet.

Program numbers of the winning horses were 5-4-6-6-6-1.

Wednesday was the 16th straight day (the entire GP West meet thus far) without the jackpot/carryover payoff requirement of just one ticket with the winners of all six Rainbow 6 races.

The jackpot consists of the entire carryover plus 80 percent of the day's new Rainbow 6 bet (20 percent takeout).

On Wednesday, the carryover coming in was $225,365.  Bettors  added $104,942 to the Rainbow 6 pool.

Per its rules on days with multiple  winning tickets, meet sponsor Gulfstream Park took out  20 percent of the day's bet. It  then divided 56 percent among tickets with six winners and added 24 percent to the carryover.

*Super Hi-5 --$17,975 on the first race; there were no tickets with the first five finishers in correct order in any of Wednesday's last four races.

There are no consolation payoffs. such as four of five places. Thus there is the carryover on the $1 minimum bet, with an 18 percent takeout.

Wednesday's first race is a $10,000 claimer at  five furlongs on turf for fillies and mares 3-YO and up

The Super Hi-5 often draws less than $1,000.

When there is an overnight carryover, it often becomes what we call a "gold rush bet"--with new bettors chasing carryover money that others have lost.

We expect that  as much as $100,000 will be bet on the Super Hi-5 in the day's first race.

We will leave the handicapping to you on this race,
