There will be four stakes races at Gulfstream Park on
Saturday.
Those races will be part
of a 13-race card with first post of 12:15.p.m.
Two of the races are the second legs of the Florida Sires
Stakes (FSS) series. The races are for 2-year-old sons and daughters of Florida-based
stallions whose owners have nominated them for the series.
The FSS races are the $200,000 Affirmed for males and the
$200,000 Susan’s Girl for fillies.
Both races are seven furlongs on dirt.
The Susan’s Girl is the 11th race with
scheduled post of 5:30 p.m.
The ten-horse field includes Capture Your Dream and
Select Friday, the winner and second place finisher in the FSS $100,000 Desert
Vixen at six furlongs on Aug. 4.
The Affirmed is the 13th race with scheduled post of 6:36 p.m.
There are fourteen entrants. That includes
Cajun Firecracker, Fully Loaded and Garter and Tie. They were the first
three finisher in the FSS $100,000 Dr. Fager at six furlongs on dirt on Aug. 4.
The Sire Stakes series is sponsored by the Ocala-based
Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association.
The series will conclude at Gulfstream on Sept. 29 with
the $400,000 In Reality for males and
the $400,000 My Dear Girl for fillies. Both
are 1 1/16 miles on dirt.
On Saturday, Gulfstream also will have two turf stakes races for 2-year-olds.
The $100,000 Sharp Susan is for fillies and will be run
at what Gulfstream calls “about 7 ½ furlongs.” It is the sixth race.
The $100,000 Proud Man is for males and also will be
about 7 ½ furlongs. It is the 12th
race.
Both races are open to horses bred in any state. But they
are “Florida preferred” in that the Florida Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective
Association is offering bonuses of up to
$25,000 in each race for Florida-breds that finish first, second or third.
