Desert Duchess won Saturday's $75,000 Cellars Shiraz Stakes, giving trainer Mike Maker and jockey Jose Batista a sweep of the day's two stakes at the Gulfstream Park West meet.
Makrr and Batista also combined with Fast and Accurate to win the $75,000 Showing Up Stakes at one mile on turf for 3-year-old males.
Jordan Wycoff owns Desert Duchess, while Kendall Hansen owns Fast and Accurate.
Desert Duchess won the Cellars Shiraz in 1:37.57 on the course listed as firm.
At 4-1. she took the lead coming out of the final turn and went on to beat Spanish Harlem by five lengths. Ellery Lane rallied to finish third in the 11-horse field.
The win was the fifth in 14 career starts for Desert Duchess. The Cellars Shiraz was the stakes debit for Desert Duchess, a daughter of Hard Spun.
The $1 exacta paid $64.90. The 50 cent trifecta paid $203.95.
