Gulfstream Rainbow 6 Carryover Above $1.4 Million

Gulfstream Park  will have a carryover of $1,408,217 on its Rainbow 6 today.

The carryover is growing because Friday was the 28th consecutive day when there were multiple tickets with the winners of all six races.

Each winning ticket paid $11,294.22. By our calculation there were 20 of those tickets.

Today's card has 12 races with first post of 12:35 p.m.  The Rainbow 6 starts on the seventh race with scheduled post of 3:28 p.m.

The dirt track  is listed as fast and the turf course is listed as firm.
Five Rainbow 6 races are scheduled for turf.

The sky has been cloudy at Gulfstream this morning. But there is just a ten percent chance of rain in the Hallandale Beach area this afternoon.  So, it should be safe to handicap with an assumption that races will stay on the turf.

Saturday betting on the  Rainbow 6 likely will be $500,000 or more.  For example, if it is $700,000 a single winning ticket would take down a jackpot of almost $2 million.

The Rainbow 6 races have 84 entrants including Main Track Only and Also Eligibles.  Factoring in scratches, there likely will be 65 to 70 total runners--leading to large exotic bet payoffs in addition to the Rainbow 6.

The sequence includes the feature 11th race--the $75,000 Melody of Colors at five furlongs on turf for 3-year-old fillies.

The Melody of Colors has just eight entrants.  It might be a race for betting teams to take just two horses.  Saturday will be a day for "going deep"  and not risking a single on any race.

Cash Back and Kandoo look  like standouts in the Melody of Colors.  My Dear Venezuela is worth considering for those who want a  higher-odds horse.

Cash Back is shipping in from Fair Grounds in New Orleans where she has won both of her career starts--each at 5 1/2 furlongs on turf.  Jose Lezcano will ride for trainer Brad Cox.

Kandoo, trained by Ralph Nicks, has two wins in six starts. One victory was at five furlongs on turf last October during the Gulfstream Park West meet at Calder.  Joel Rosario has the mount.

Cash Back and Kandoo are among five entrants with early speed.

My Dear Venezuela will be stalking and could benefit from a pace duel. The Bruno Tesoro-trainee will be ridden by Luis Saez. She will make her turf debut.  Her record includes a second place finish in last month's six-furlong Old Hat (Grade 3) at Gulfstream.

As the below numbers show, most days this week have produced attractive Rainbow 6 payoffs.  That indicates that as the daily betting grows, you can have a good payoff even if you are not a sole jackpot winner.

*Monday -- 40 tickets for $6,085 each
*Wednesday -- 3 tickets for $59,245 each (one winner was 45-1)
*Thursday -- 346 tickets for $573 each (four favorites won)
*Friday -- 20 tickets for $11,294 each

On Friday there were four winning horses at 4-1 or lower, one winner at 10-1 and one winner at 12-1.

The carryover coming into Friday was  $1,312,765.  Friday's betting on the Rainbow 6 was $397,816.  Of that, $95,452 was added to the carryover--pushing it above $1.4 million.

The Rainbow 6 is a 20-cent per combination only bet. with multiple horses permitted in each race. For example, a ticket with two horses in each race has 64 combinations and costs $12.80.

Gulfstream pays out the full Rainbow 6 pool of the day’s bets (minus the 20 percent takeout) plus the carryover only on days when there is just one ticket with all six winners.

On other days Gulfstream divides 70 percent of the day’s bets (minus the takeout) among those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent (minus takeout) is added to the carryover.

The most recent day with a single Rainbow 6 winner was Jan. 13, when it was hit for $76,799.38.
