Ginger Punch on Turf Coming Up at Gulfstream

At Gulfstream Park, Saturday's feature is the $75,000 Ginger Punch Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on turf for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up.

The Ginger  Punch is the day's tenth race with scheduled post of 5:02 p.m.

The race is part of the Rainbow 6, which has a carryover of $220,402.  The 20  cents per combination-only bet will be on races seven to twelve with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:23 p.m.

The dirt track is listed as Fast and the turf course is listed as Firm.  The Weather Channel forecast is for a chance of rain of 15 percent or less during racing hours.

This link to the Equibase Web site has the Gulfstream scratches for Saturday. It has click-ons for handicapping materials.  Some is free. Some, including Past Performances, is at cost. The link will update for scratches and other changes.

Barring late scratches, the Ginger Punch will have eight starters. The entries also included Heiress Indy listed as Main Track Only.

Summering, Shifty She and Sun Summers are the likely favorites.

Summering is coming off a win in the 1 1/16 mile Distaff Turf Stakes, for Florida breds at Tampa Bay Downs on March 28. The Ginger Punch will be her first race on the Gulfstream turf.

Romero Maragh has the mount for trainer Tom Proctor.

Shifty She's last start was a win in the Powder Break at one mile on the Gulfstream turf on May 15. Edwin Conzalez has the mount for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.

Shifty She has won four of her six career starts, including three of five on the Gulfstream turf. But she  has never raced farther than one mile.

She has the rail post and could be the controlling speed if she gets a clean break under Gonzalez, who is third in wins during Gulfstream's spring meet.

Sun Summers' last race was a fourth place finish, following a wide trip, in the Distaff Turf stakes at Tampa Bay on March 28.

Last summer and fall, she won high-end turf claiming races at Belmont Park and Churchill Downs and won a turf allowance at Aqueduct.

Sun Summers has one win, one second place finish and one third place in seven starts on the Gulfstream turf.

Samy Camacho will ride Sun Summers for trainer Mike Maker.
