HorseracingFLA Staff Report
Tampa Bay Downs will close out its New Year’s weekend today with nine races and first post of 12:28 p.m.
That action will follow a Saturday when the 4-year-old filly Pramedya, the 7-2 second betting choice, beat the 8-5 favorite Miss Giacomo by three-quarters of a length in the feature race.
It was an allowance with a $23,000 purse at 1 1/16 miles on turf for fillies and mares 4-years-old and up. Pramedya was ridden by Daniel Centeno and won in 1:44.10
Pramedya was making her first turf start and her first start since suffering a condylar fracture in her left front leg in a fourth-place finish last April 8 at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky.
“The surgery was pretty uneventful, but we had to give her time,” Arnaud Delacour, Pramedya’s trainer, said after Saturday’s race.
Pramedya’s winning time in the conditional allowance for fillies and mares was 1:44.10 for the mile-and-a-sixteenth distance.
Pramedya, a daughter of Harlan’s Holiday, broke her maiden at Tampa Bay Downs on March 8 in a six-and-a-half furlong sprint on the main track by three lengths.
Delacour then thought she might be of stakes quality, but the injury delayed her progress and her trainer’s ambitions.
“She had always shown good promise, and this is a nice way for her to come back to competition, he said. “It’s good to see she can run on the turf, too. I’m glad to see that’s in her future.”
Pramedya races for the Lael Stables of Roy and Gretchen Jackson.
Pramedya paid $9.80 to win as the second wagering choice in the 10-horse field.
