BAUER'S SATURDAY BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA BAY DOWNS

 By Bob Bauer

Saturday brings fast and firm conditions and a ten race card with abundant sunshine to greet horseplayers today. The first Post time is scheduled for 12:16 PM.

Tampa Bay Downs has live Thoroughbred racing every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (except Easter), until closing day May 7.

The play for the day is in Race 5, Post time is 2:17 PM. Live coverage on RadioStPete.com, including the call from announcer Jason Beem, will start at 2:14.

Three year-olds and up will go eight and one-half furlongs on the main track under $8,000 NW2L conditions.

ANGELUS DIAMOND (3) appears to have a good chance here, dropping in to face condition claiming foes for the first time. A son of GORMLEY (MALIBU MOON), this sophomore has natural early speed, he wired a group of $16,000 Maiden Claimers on the lawn back on December 22. He should find himself with an early lead with this field and could go all the way.
He had a pair of races after the Maiden win that are throw-outs. The first was on an artificial track at Gulfstream Park with $50,000 company. Then, he ran over his head again with $20,000 rivals on the sod. He's at his lowest level of competition here ($8,000) and worth a bet at 12/1 on the Morning line.

THE BET  $10 win and place on ANGELUS DIAMOND (3) and a $2 three horse exacta box ($12) with that one and SKILLFUL (5) and STAYIN OR SRTAYIN (9). 3,5,9  Total Bet $32   GOOD LUCK!

PREVIOUS RESULTS:  3/4/22  Our win and place wagers went down when our choice was rank and ran poorly. However, the other runners in the exacta box came through. Collected $91.60 on the $32 total bet, a profit of $59.60. The bankroll is now $989.10.
