Gulfstream on Wednesday: Large Carryovers on Rainbow 6 and Super H-5

 After being dark Monday and Tuesday, Gulfstream Park will resume racing on Wednesday with two attractive carryovers.

First post will be 12:35p.m. for a ten-race  card at the track in Hallandale Beach, Fla,

The first race has a Super Hi-5 carryover  of $13,957.

The Rainbow 6 has a carryover of $579,853.  The 20 cents per combination-only bet will be on races five to ten with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:36 p.m.

This link to  the Equibase web site has the Gulfstream  entries for Wednesday.  It has click-ons for handicapping material.  Some is free. Some, including past performances, is at cost.    

The  third, sixth, seventh, ninth and tenth races are schedule for turf. 

Gulfstream has run all 52 scheduled-for-turf races on that surffaace during the first ten days of its chmpionship meet, It also had no races taken off the turf at this stage of its 2019-2020 championship meet.

South Florida is coming off a very rainy October and November--the months when Gulfstream held its last Gulfstream Park West meet at Calder in Miami Gardens.

On Sunday, each ticket with all six Rainbow 6 winners cashed $1,206.26 on a 20 cent bet. HorseRacingFLA's review of Equibase charts shows there were 182 such tickets.

Program numbers of the six winning horses were 7-2-5-1-5-3..  

Gulfstream is guaranteeing that the Rainbow 6 pool will be at least $900,000 if there is just one ticket with all six winning horses.  If the total of the carryover and new Rainbow 6 bets is less than $900.000, Gulfstream will need to put in the difference.

There have been multiple winning Rainbow 6 tickets on each of the first ten days of the 2020-2021 championship meet.

On Sunday, $392,853 was bet on the Rainbow 6. Of that, Gulfstream took out 20 percent and then divided 56 percent among tickets with six winners.

Super Hi-5

On Sunday, there were no winning tickets on the Super Hi-5 in either of the last two races.

The  bet is $1 minimum and requires picking the first five finishers in correct order--with no consolation payoffs such as four of five .

If the Hi-5 is not hit, 82 percent of the new bet (18 percent takeout) and all of the incoming carryover is carried over to the next race with seven or more starters.

At Gulfstream. the Super Hi-5 usually attracts less than $5,000 if  there is no carryover. 

A carryover of Monday's size at the start of a day (more time for handicapping) will often draw $50,000  or more. If it carries to the next race, it often attracts $100,00 or more as new bettors come in attempting to win money that others have lost. 

By then what some people call a sucker bet has become a "vulture bet"  We like the term "Gold Rush bet."

Wednesday's first race is a $12,500 maiden claimer for 2-YO fillies. 

There are fourteen entrants, including two Also Eligibles.

The key to the race could be whether Piper (14) draws in. She has two second place  finishes and two third place finishes in her last four starts, all at higher claiming prices than Wednesday's race. 

She has shown speed, and will need to show it early from the far outside. Edgard Zayas has the mount for trainer Juan Alvarado.

Facts Only (3) is the other horse that most bettors will have in the one hole in the Hi-5 bet. She is cutting back from a one mile turf race at GP West, with a speed figure that is the best in Wednesday's field.

Facts Only, trained by Kathy Davey, will draw support partly because her return mount rider is red-hot Paco Lopez who leads Gulfstream jockeys with eighteen wins after ten days

If Pitufina (13) gets in, she rates a strong chance to finish in the top five as do Sierra Diamond (9) and Fifth Illusion (2). Beyond that it is a challenge, partly because five entrants are first-time starters.

Because, the Super Hi-5 could carry over, it is wise to do some advance handicapping on it for the second race. If there is a scratch in the second race, it would reduce the field to six. That suggests taking a look at the third race, which has eight entrants.
