XY Jet, owned by Gelfenstein Farm, came within two-fifths of a second of a long-standing Calder track record when he romped to a wire-to-wire win in Wednesday's feature race at the Gulfstream Park West meet,
XY Jet beat Weekend Hideawy by more than five lengths and ran six furlongs in 1:09.33 over the Calder dirt track that was listed as fast.
The Calder track record is 1:08.95. Forty One Carats set it on Oct. 7, 2000 in the Smile Sprint Handicap.
The race had a $40,000 purse and was a $62,500 optional claimer.
Not surprisingly, XY Jet was not in for a tag.
Jorge Navarro trains and Emisael Jaramillo rode XY Jet, a 3-year-old gelded son of Kantharos.
The win was the eleventh of the GP West meet for Navarro, who is back in a tie with Antonio Sano in the trainers' race.
Following today's 10-race card, we'll have more about XY Jet along with other news and developments at GP West.
