Gulfstream Saturday: 6 Stakes, 2 Carryovers
Gulfstream Park will have six stakes races and two carryovers on Saturday, the second day of its 2019-2020 championship meet.
Here are details on the Saturday card.
*Gulfstream will have eleven races, with first post at 12:00 p.m.
*The six stakes races are all for 2-year-olds and all have $75,000 purses.
*The carryover on the Raimbow 6 is $14,100. The 20-cents-per combination only bet will be on raees six to eleven with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m .
Gulfstream has guaranteed that theRainbow 6 pool will be at least $100,000. If the combination of new Rainbow 6 bets and the $14,100 carryover is less than $100,000, Gulfstream will put in the difference.

The Rainbow 6, a 20-cents- per combination only bet, will be on races four through nine with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:17 p.m.
There will be mandatory payouts (i. e. no carryovers) on the Late Pick an Late Pick 5 and on the Super Hi-5 in the ninth and final race.

GP West Rainbow 6 Carryover for Wednesday Will Be $909,176 as End of Meet Approaches

When the Gulfstream Park West meet resumes on Wednesday, it will have a carryover of $909,176
on the Rainbow 6.
First post will be 1:20 p.m. for an eight-race card at Calder in Miami Gardens. Gulfstream Park conducts the GP West meet under a lease with Calder and its parent company Churchill Downs Inc.
The Rainbow 6 will be on races three to eight with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:20 p.m.
The Wednesday racing will follow Sunday's card when bettors poured $196,968 into the Rainbow 6. That was the most yet in the meet that is now 35 days old.
And the carryover is 35 days old because the meet has not had a day with the jackpot/carryover payoff requirement of just one ticket with all six Rainbow 6 winners.
On Sunday, there were 110 tickets with all six Rainbow 6 winners. Each received $1,003.66 on the 20-cent per combination only bet.
Program numbers of the six winning horses were 9-3-1-7-8-6.
Winners included two favorites and four other horses that were 8-1 or lower.
The 40-day Gulfstream Park West meet will end on Sunday Nov. 24. The Gulfstream Park 2019-2020 championship meet will open on Friday Nov. 29 at Gulfstream's home track in Hallandale Beach.

GP West Rainbow 6 Carryover Passes $700,000
The Gulfstream Park West meet's Rainbow 6 carryover is thirty days old and has grown to $727,236. following a Sunday of chalky winners.
The carryover will be up for grabs on Wednesday when the GP West meet resumes at Calder in Miami Gardens.
There will be eight races with first post of 1:20 p.m.
The Rainbow 6 will be on races three to eight with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:20 p.m. We plan to preview those races on Wednesday morning.
Note: Numbers in this story are from HorseRacingFLA's review of Equibase charts on GP West races.
Sunday Results On Sunday there were 491 tickets with all six winners. Each received $167.52 on the 20 cents per combination only bet.
Program numbers of the winning horses were 2-6-7-7-5-8.
Five of the Rainbow 6 races were won by favorites and the other was won by a 7-2 shot.
That helps explain why there was the lowest Rainbow 6 payoff and the largest number of winning tickets during the current cycle that began on Oct. 2. That was opening day of the GP West meet.

The 40-day GP West meet will end Sunday Nov. 24 and the Gulfstream championship meet will open Friday Nov. 29.
A Florida law prohibits a pari-mutuel from extending a carryover into another meet.
So on the last day of the GP West meet there will need to be a mandatory payoff of the carryover--no matter the number of winning tickets.
It is likely that there also would be a mandatory payoff on Saturday Nov.23--the heaviest betting day of the week.
If the carryover continues to GP West closing weekend, we expect it would be between $1 million and $1.2 million. In that case betting on the Rainbow 6 would probably be $5 million or more--with a large number of bettors who usually do not play the Rainbow 6 jumping in to chase money that others have lost.
Comparisons
The Gulfstream summer meet, which ended Sept. 29, had a Rainbow 6 carryover that lasted 47 racing days.
It was hit by a single ticket on Friday Sept. 27, a non-mandatory payoff day, and paid $2,213,978 on a 20-cent bet.
The summer meet carryover after 30 days was $975,000 --34 percent higher than the current carryover after 40 days.
In recent years, daily average total handle at the summer meet has been about $5 million, compared with about $4 million at the GP West meet.
The summer meet usually has nine races per day, with four-day race weeks. GP West usually has eight races per day and five day weeks.
Because the summer meet is run at Gulfstream, it is more popular than GP West with simulcast and ADW bettors.
Bettors at GP West have to deal with makeshift conditions, since Calder tore down its grandstand in stages between 2015 and 2017.

The Rainbow 6 will be on races three to eight with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:20 p.m. We plan to preview those races on Wednesday morning.

GP West Rainbow 6 Starts With Win By 4--5 Shot
Fortunate Friends (2), the 4-5 favorite, won Sunday's fourth race at the Gulfstream Park West meet to start the Rainbow 6,
The carryover coming in was $691,990. Bettors added $146,888 to the pool.
Conditions are fast and firm.

The fourth race had just six starters, and there are just 43 starters in the sequence.
And with syndicates and computerized programs going deep in some races, it might require three double digit-odds winners to have just one jackpot-taking down ticket with all six winners.

GP West: Results of Saturday Stakes Races; Lopez, Camacho Each Ride Three Winners
The Gulfstream Park West meet on Saturday held its annual Millions Preview program, with nine stakes races among its eleven races.
All of the stakes had purses of $75,000 and were restricted to Florida breds. The GP West meet is conducted by Gulfstream Park and is run at Calder in Miami Gardens.
This story has a list of the stakes winners, below. Later this weekend, we will have stories with additional details on the stakes races.
In other GP West news from Saturday:
*Paco Lopez and Samy Camacho each rode three stakes winners.
The winning jockeys, trainers and odds are listed below.
Lopez added a fourth win, in the fifth race which was a claimer for fillies and mares 3-YO and up.
The four victories moved Lopez into second place in the GP West jockey standings.
He has 23 wins through Saturday, the 29th day of the 40-day meet that will end Nov. 24.
Cristian Torres, a five-pound apprentice, leads with 24. Defending GP West champion Edgard Zayas and Leonel Reyes are tied for third at 22 wins. Emisael Jaramillo is next with 20.
The GP West meet started Oct. 2. Lopez was not there until mid-October. Instead, he was at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, N.J., where he led jockeys in wins. He has won multiple riding titles at Gulfstream and Calder.
At the current GPW meet, Lopez has his 23 wins in 79 mounts. His 29 percent winning percentage is the best among the meet's jockeys who have ten or more wins.
On Sunday, Gulfstream has a nine-race card with first post at 12:50 p.m.
Lopez has seven mounts for the day. Torres, Zayas and Jaramillo are each listed on six mounts.
Reyes suffered a broken arm and broken chin in a spill during the seventh race at GP West on Nov. 1. It is expected that he will not be able to ride until late December.
Reyes was unseated when the 3-year-old filly Blue Eyed Beth hit the rail. She was uninjured.
Camacho has eight wins in 55 starts at the GP West meet. His achievements include leading jockeys in wins at the 2018-2019 Tampa Bay Downs meet.
*On Saturday, GP West had six turf races and five dirt races.
Only one race was won by a horse leading at every call.

GP West Rainbow 6 Carryover Stays Alive, and Will Be $691,990 on Sunday's Card

Kantharos' Image (1) passed Harry's Ontheloose (2) in deep stretch and went on to win by three-quarters of a length in the 11th and final race at the Gulfstream Park West meet on Saturday.
The result kept the Rainbow 6 carryover alive for a 29th day (the entire GP West meet thus far).
The carryover will be $691,990 on Sunday.
The GP West meet, run at Calder in Miami
Gardens, will have nine races with first post at 12:50 p.m
The Rainbow 6 will be on races four to nine, with the sequence set to start at 2:22 p.m.
If Harry's Ontheloose had won yesterday's 11th race, there would have been just one ticket with all six winning horses in the the Rainbow 6. That ticket would have taken down a jackpot of approximately $800,000.
Instead, the win by Kantharos' Image left two tickets with six winners. Both received $65,741.60 on the 20 cents per combination only bet..
Program numbers of the winning horses were 5-3-6-5-5-1.
Other Rainbow 6 and wagering notes:
*Bettors added $206,650 to the Rainbow 6--the most on any day in the current cycle. Twenty-four percent of that was added to the carryover.

Rainbow 6 Opener Won by 8-1 Shot

Today's eighth race could determine whether there will finally be just one ticket wirh all six winners -- thus taking down a jackpot that would be about $645,000.

GPW Rainbow 6 Carryover Passes $600,000
There were ten tickets with all six winning horses in the Rainbow 6 at the Gulfstream Park West meet on Thursday.
Each received $6,548.56 on the 20-cent per combination only bet
Because there was more than one winning ticket, the Rainbow 6 carryover continues for a 27th day (entire GP West meet thus far).
The carryover will be $603,725 Friday on the eight-race card at Calder in Miami Gardens.
First post is 1:20 p.m. The Rainbow 6 is on races three to eight, with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:20 p.m.

Rainbow 6 Opener Won By 3-5 Favorite
Island Girl (3), the 3-5 favorite, won Wednesday's third race at the Gulfstream Park West meet, to start the Rainbow 6.
The carryover coming in was $533,241. Wednesday's betting on the Rainbow 6 was $176,754--a large amount for a weekday.
If several longshots come in and a single ticket has them. that ticket would take down a jackpot of approximately $670,000.
GP West Fast and Firm for Wednesday
Conditions are listed as Fast and Firm for Wednesday's eight-race card at the Gulfstream Park West meet.
First post is 1:20 p.m.--a change from the meet's previous first post time of 1:00 p.m.

GPW Rainbow 6 Carryover Grows to $533,241

The Gulfstream :Park West meet is 25 days old and the Rainbow 6 carryover has grown on each of those days---reaching $533,241 when racing resumes on Wednesday.
First post will be 1:00 p.m. for an eight-race card at Calder in Miami Gardens.
The Rainbow 6 will be on races three to eight with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
On Sunday, there were just three tickets with all six Rainbow 6 winners. Each was paid $29,224.68 on the 20-cent per combination only bet.
Program numbers of the winning horses were 9-9-3-1-7-11.
The number of winning tickets was low primarily because Takestwotowiggle (11) at 29-1 won the eighth and final race.
Going into the eighth race there were tickets with 81 1ive combinations.
Only one had a single--on Sharon's Law (3). If that horse won, the ticket holder would have taken down a jackpot payoff of approximately $630,000.
That would have combined the entire coming-in carryover of $498,621 plus 80 percent of the day's Rainbow 6 bet of $144.042.
Sharon's Law finished sixth in the field of eleven horses.
Odds on the other five winning horses were 7-1. 2-1. 9-2. 5-2 and 7-2.
On days with multiple tickets that have all six winners,.Gulfstream takes out 20 percent of the day's Rainbow 6 bet. It then divides 56 percent of the day's Rainbow 6 bets among tickets with six wiinner and adds 24 percent to the carryover.
The high odds on the eighth race winner led to these high payoffs:
*Late Pick 5 =-$46,032 wagered; tickets with five of five wieners received $14,672.10 on the minimum 50 cent bet.
The number of winning tickets was not available. But it probably was two or three. Tickets with four of five winners received $80.55 on the minimum 50 cent=bet.
*Late Pick 4 -- $50,732 wagered; tickets with all four winners paid $8,052.28 on the minimum 50 cent bet.
On days, such as Sunday, with multiple tickets that have all six winners,.Gulfstream takes out 20 percent of the day's Rainbow 6 bet. It then divides 56 percent of the day's Rainbow 6 bets and adds 24 percent to the carryover.
What's Ahead?
The GP West carryover is growing almost as fast as a carryover at the recent Gulfstream Park summer meet, when it took 20 days to reach $500,000.
It lasted 47 days until it was hit by a single ticket for $2,211,784 .on Sept. 27
The 40-day GP West meet ends on Sunday Nov. 24. Gulfsteam Park will not be allowed, under a state law, to continue a carryover into the championship meet that will open on Nov. 29.
Thus the GP West meet on its final weekend will need to have a mandatory payout of any Rainbow 6 carryover--no matter the number of tickets with six winners.
It is likely that Gulfstream will schedule that payout for Saturday Nov 23, and have a single-day pool the following day.
If the carryover continues into the closing weekend, it probably will be in the $1 million range and betting on the Rainbow 6 likely would be $5 million or more on mandatory payout day.
The Rainbow 6 carryover has reached a size where some betting syndicates are no doubt going deep in some races.
That reduces the chances of there being just one ticket with all six winners. But the large pools increase the prospect of large payoffs, like on Sunday, when there are only several tickets with all six winning horses.

Summer Clothes (9), at 7-1, rallied down the stretch and beat Elusive Molly (2) by a half-length in Sunday's third race at the Gulfstream Park West meet.
The race was the opening leg of the Rainbow 6.
The carryover coming in was $498,672. Bettors added $144,042 to the Rainbow 6 pool.
The race was a $48,000 maiden special weight at one mile on turf for 2-YO fillies.

Santa Anita's Breeders' Cup Notables
There will be five Breeders' Cup races at Santa Anita Park on Friday--all for 2-year-olds and with 63 entrants including Also Eligibles.
But only two of those horses have raced in Florida.
They are Two Sixty in the $2 million Juvenile Fillies (Grade 1), race 7 at 5:32 pm and Graceful Kitten in the $1 million Juvenile Turf (Grade 1). It goes to post at 4:52 pm in race 6.
They are coming into the Breeders' Cup, in Arcadia, Calif., off gate-to-wire victories in stakes races on Sept. 28 at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla.
Both will be racing away from Gulfstream's spring-summer meets for the first time, and both will be making their graded stakes debuts.
Thus, in the wagering, they will be dealing with pre-conceived bias from some handicappers.
However, Two Sixty's stakes-record win in the $400,000 My Dear Girl Stakes was so fast that she has been attracting some buzz and could go off in the 10-1 range in a nine-horse field.
Graceful Kitten is unbeaten in three starts, including the Armed Forces Stakes on Sept. 28. But he probably will be among the longest shots in the Juvenile Turf's full 14-horse field.
It is not unusual for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile races to have just several horses that have raced in Flonrida.
A main reason is that many top national trainers, such as Todd Pletcher and Bill Mott, race their top 2-year-olds at tracks in New York and in Kentucky duiring the summer and fall. In December they bring many of those horses to Florida to race duirng the winter at Gulfstream or at Tampa Bay Downs in Oldsmar.
Finishes in the money, let alone wins, have been rare for Florida horses in Breeders' Cup Juvenile races.
A notable exception was in 2010 when Awesome Feather won the Juvenile Fillies at Churcjoll Downs.
Prior to the Breeders' Cup, Awesom,e Feather swept the theee-race fillies division of the Florida Sire Stakes, then run at Calder in Miami GHardens. Those races are restricted to Florida-breds who are sons or daughters of Florida-registered stallions whose owners have nominated them for the progrsam.
Awesome Feather was owned by Fred and Jane Brei's Jacks or Better Farm in Ocala. She was trained by Stan Gold and ridden by Jeffrey Sanchez.
The five Breeders' Cup races are part of a ten-race card at Santa Anita. Gulfstream and Tampa Bay Downs will have simulcast wagerig on the full card. The five Brereders' Cup races will betelevised live on the NBC Sports cable channel.
