Gulfstream Park will open its Spring-Summer meet April 4th at 1:15 PM, with 8 races on the card. Sixty Eight entries are listed: 4 dirt, 4 turf. No stakes races are planned.
The meet will run from April 4th until September 29th, approximately 56 race days with a 4-day Thursday thru Sunday race schedule. We'll alert you to the post time changes when they are announced.
On the last day of the Champions Meet, which ended Sunday, three favorites won on the day, with a 30:1 win by Farley in the 7th race the only surprise. As Saturday was the Florida Derby Day, with a $47.5 million handle, Sunday was surprisingly strong at $8.3 million.
Seventy-eight starters ran with just 3 turf races. We suspect Gulfstream wanted to allow the turf to 'heal' after the 80 starters galloped on the grass Saturday. The change from a 5 day to 4 day schedule now will also help the turf courserecover over this Spring and Summer.
Gulfstream ended the Champions Meet with a $910.23 million total handle vs. $929.01 for the prior year.
Rainbow 6 Carryover: Forty-Seven starters ran Sunday in the Rainbow 6, with $5,102 paid out to 18 winners. The Late pick 4 and 5 paid $117.90 and $2994 respectively as the high odds winner Farley was in both race sequences. Gulfstream will have a carryover of $39,363 in the Rainbow Thursday. That's the sole carryover.
The Rainbow 6 carryover commences in race 3 with an approx. post time of 2:15 PM.
