HorseracingFLA and RadioStPete Combine for Daily Coverage at Tampa Bay Downs

HorseracingFLA is pleased to announce an expansion of our partnership with Internet station RadioStPete for coverage of racing at Tampa Bay Downs.

RadioStPete can be found at:
at http://radiostpete.com/

Starting this Wednesday March 14, RadioStPete on all race days will carry track announcer Richard Grunder’s live call of the feature race.

Bob Bauer, HorseracingFLA associate editor, will preview the race and later will recap it.

In addition, RadioStPete, with HorseracingFLA, on Sunday, March 25 will carry Grunder's live calls of all six stakes races on Tampa Bay Downs's annual Florida Cup day.

Bauer will have previews and reviews  of all six stakes races. Those six races are restricted to Florida breds.

Bauer will continue to phone in two other reports to RadioStPete each race day.

His preview of the day’s races is carried at approximately 8:10 a.m. and at 9:10 a.m. on RadioStPete's morning news shows.

His reviews of the day’s races are carried at several intervals between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Last Saturday, RadioStPete carried Grunder’s stretch calls and Bauer’s previews and reviews for all five of the stakes traces on Tamapa Bay Downs’s annual Festival Day.

“We are very happy to join RadioStPete in this expanded coverage, with Bob providing his handicapping and other insights," said HorseracingFLA editor Jim Freer.

“The Tampa Bay Downs broadcasts will provide added exposure for HorseracingFLA, and we expect they will introduce Tampa Bay Downs to new fans," Freer said.

Joe Bourdow, general manager of RadioStPete, expects that some racing fans who listen to the broadcasts will start listening to other programs on RadioStPete.

"We are civic-minded and we like to help promote activities in St. Petersburg and around Tampa Bay." he said. "Tampa Bay Downs is like a hidden jewel. We will introduce it and horse racing to some new fans."

In addition to the Internet, RadioStPete and other Internet-only stations may be accessed on iPads and on many cell phones.

RadioStPete is a 24-hour station with its  office and studio in downtown St. Petersburg.

Its programming is built around national and local news, public service announcements, civic and entertainment event announcements, interviews, public affairs and music.

The station's music mix ranges from today's softer hits to classic oldies. Each day, it has programs devoted to recordings by Tampa Bay area artists.

RadioStPete's audience is primarily in St. Petersburg and environs. It also has a growing number of listeners around the United States and overseas.
Freer said the RadioStPete live broadcasts will be an important service
to fans who cannot get to Tampa Bay Downs or other pari-mutuels that carry its signal and who do not have advance deposit wagering accounts for telecasts of races.

Freer noted the significance of Radio St. Pete's growing interest in covering horse racing.

"For more than a decade, many daily  newspapers and other media outlets have been reducing their coverage of thoroughbred racing in Florida and other states," he said. "We thank Joe Bourdow and RadioStPete for joining us in covering this exciting sport that through racing and breeding continues to have a significant economic impact in Florida."

Editor's Note--Even if RadioStPete were not our partner in covering Tampa Bay Downs, we would recommend listening to it for its music alone.
