Tampa Bay: Allen Off Mounts With Rib Injury

Jockey Ronald Allen Jr.’s quest for his 3,500th career win is being delayed due to a fractured rib.

He has been taken off his scheduled mounts Wednesday in the second fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth races at Tampa Bay Downs.

Allen sustained the injury in a spill in Sunday’s ninth and final race at Tampa Bay.

Yorkshire Inn, Allen’s mount, was bumped and fell near the eighth pole in that turf race.  Yorkshire Inn sustained injuries that resulted in his being euthanized by injection.

Allen walked off the course on his own power. But it was later discovered that he had a fractured rib.
Information on when Allen might return to racing was not readily available.

Allen won his 3,499h career race last Saturday, on Game Lad in the eighth race at Tampa Bay.

He was winless in six starts at Tampa Bay on Sunday.
Allen’s  3,499 wins place him 116th on Equibase’s career wins list for jockeys in the United States and Canada.

The Equibase list is for all jockeys who have ridden in North America since 1976.  It includes all pre-1976 wins for jockeys who began their careers prior to that  year.

Allen turned  53 on Monday.  He has led Tampa Bay jockeys in wins four times—most recently in 2010-2011.

Wednesday is the 84th day of Tampa Bay’s 91-day race meet for 2016-2017.

Going into the day, Daniel  Centeno led jockeys with 90 wins. Edwin Gonzalez is second with 79 victories, followed by Pablo Morales with 70 and Allen with 69.

Gulfsteam Rainbow 6 Carryover at $93,884.

Gulfstream Park will have a carryover of $93,884 on its Rainbow 6 when it resumes racing on Wednesday.

First post is 12:55 p.m. for a nine-race card. The Rainbow 6 is on races four to nine.

Tampa Bay Downs also will resume racing on Wednesday, with nine races and first post of 12:45 p.m. Tampa Bay has no Wednesday carryovers.

On Sunday there were three tickets with the winners  of all six Rainbow races. Each of those tickets  received $12,617.50 on a 20-cent bet.

Gulfstream Pays out the Rainbow 6  jackpot only on days when there is just one ticket with the winners of all six Rainbow 6 races.

The jackpot is the combination of the full  carryover plus 80 percent of the day’s new Rainbow 6 bet (20 percent takeout).

On days with multiple winning tickets, Gulfstream takes out 20 percent of the day’s Rainbow 6 bet. It then divides 56 percent of the day’s Rainbow 6 bet among tickets with the most winners (usually six) and adds 24 percent to the carryover.

On Sunday, the carryover coming in was $77. 661. Bettors added $67,640 to the Rainbow 6.

Gulfstream did not have turf races on Sunfay, and the dirt track was listed as sloppy.

The odds on the winning horses were 3-1, 8-1. 4-1,12-1, 3-1 and 6-5..  There were 46 starters in the six races.

The Rainbow 6 is a 20-cent per combination-only bet. Multiple horses can be used in each race, thus setting up a ticket with multiple 20 cent combinations.  For example, a ticket with two horses in each race has 64 combinations and costs $12.80.

Three Tickets Have a Single in Rainbow 6

The 10th and finale is coming up at Gulfstream on an off-the-turf track listed as  sloppy.

There are 13 live tickets in the Rainbow 6.  Three of those tickets have a horse singled -- numbers 2, 4  and 6.

If any of those three win, they would take down a  jackpot of about $120,000.
