BAUER'S WEDNESDAY BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

The Downs has a nine race card on tap for Wednesday, January 5. The first Post time is scheduled for 12:20 PM.

The feature is Race 5, Post time is 2:18 PM. A full field older Fillies and Mares will go a grassy mile under $16,000 open company Claiming conditions. Live coverage on RadioStPete.com, including announcer Jason Beam starts at 2:15.

CEFALO (3) looks to be the one to catch, coming off a handy four length wiring of condition claiming foes at Woodbine (Canada) on December 2.

That seven panel Synthetic track win shows that this five year-old Mare is in top form, earning the highest figure in her career. She has an early pace advantage, has won on turf before and should be in front early saving ground on the inside under top jock Antonio Gallardo.

Her trainer Barrington Siddo, new to Tampa, has stats of 25% winners with claiming repeaters. An old horseplayer's saying warns to "beware of the stranger".

THE BET  $10 win and place on CEFALO (3) and a $2 exacta box with STRONG GEM (1) and DEPUTY DORA (9).    1,3,9.     Total Bet $32   GOOD LUCK !!

PREVIOUS RESULTS  1/2  Lost $32, the bankroll is now $1,028.

BAUER'S SUNDAY BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

The Downs closes out New Year's weekend with a nine race card. The first Post time is scheduled for 12:14 PM.

Today's play is in Race 7, Post time is 3:25. Live coverage on RadioStPete.com, including announcer Jason Beam starts at 3:22.

A full field of four year-olds and up will go one mile and one-sixteenth on the lawn, under $16,000 NW2L conditions.

PALAZIA (10) a son of PALICE MALICE is a logical longshot at 12/1 on the Morning line. This five-year old gelding is still lightly raced (only three tries) and appears to have considerable upside in today's situation.

His career began on January 15, 2020, when he was a handy winner, wiring a field of $16,000 Maiden Claimers on the Tampa turf. Six weeks later, he finished second after setting the pace with $25,000 Optional Claiming rivals.

He was then absent from the races for twenty one months, probably with physical ailments. Now in the barn of J.Kent Sweezy, he returned last December 9 at Gulfstream in a NW2L on the synthetic track. He took the lead from the gate and finished sixth, understandable considering the layoff and first try on a new surface.

This one has a great chance, with a win and a place on the local lawn and owning early foot that has put him on the lead in every race so far. He has the services of leading rider Gallardo today and they just might steal this purse.

THE BET  $10 win and place on PALAZIA (10) and $2 exacta part-wheels, up and down with: ESTO VARONIL (1), WESTWARD LOOK (3), and NOT INVENTED HERE (5).   10/1,3,5     1,3,5/10   Total Bet $32   GOOD LUCK!!

PREVIOUS RESULTS  1/1  Lost the win and place bets. The saver exacta returned $27.80, a loss of $24.20 on the $52 total bet. The bankroll is now $1060.

BAUER'S SATURDAY BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

 HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The Downs presents a ten race program today; the first Post time is scheduled for 12:14 PM.

Racing is held four days a week on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The season ends on Saturday, May 7.

There are nine events on tomorrow's card. First Post is scheduled for 12:14.

Today's play is in Race 7, Post time is 3:25. Four year-old and up Fillies and Mares will sprint six panels on the main track, under $12,500 Optional Claiming conditions.

BION MAGIC (1) is worth a bet at 6/1 on the Morning line. This five year-old Mare comes from the red hot Vinson barn, currently with three winners and a show from four starts (75%). She finished a decent third, only a head behind SUZIE'SSTEPPINOUT (4) going seven furlongs on November 27, against similar rivals as today.

BION MAGIC (1) has a good opportunity to upset this group. The turn-back to six furlongs can be to her benefit, as she may be leading in the stretch and SUZIE'SSTEPPINOUT (4) is a closer and could run out of real estate. Her last outing was her first try at Tampa and came off a fifty eight day freshening. Improvement is expected. Top jock Sammy Camacho was aboard last time and returns today.

THE BET:  $20 win and place on BION MAGIC (1) and a $2 exacta box with SUZI'SSTEPPINOUT (4) and LADY JEAN (7).
Exacta Box: 1,4,7       Total Bet $52 GOOD LUCK !!

PREVIOUS RESULTS  12/31/21:  Our choice won easily, but we missed the exacta. The winner was bet down to odds-on. But, a short price beats a long face.

The win and place bets returned $60, a profit of $8 for the day. The bankroll is now $1,084.20.
