Wet Weather in Forecast for Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby

Heavy rain has been falling in Louisville, Ky., on Friday morning and it appears that rain will be a factor  for Friday's Kentucky Oaks day  card and for Saturday's Kentucky Derby Day  card at Churchill Downs.

First post is 10:30 a.m. for Friday's 13-race card  at  Churchill.

The  Kentucky  Oaks (Grade 1) for 3-year-old fillies is the 11th race  with scheduled post of  6:12 p.m.

The Weather Channel  forecast is for a rain chance of  15 percent during most of  Friday afternoon.

On Saturday, Churchill will have  14  races with first post of 10:30 a.m.

The Kentucky Derby is the 12th  race with scheduled post of  6:50 p.m.

The Weather Channel forecast  is for the rain chance to range between 55 percent and 80 percent during racing hours.

Thus. many handicappers will still be making decisions late in he afternoon for  the Kentucky Derby.

"Which horse will win?" could depend largely on whether the rain has stopped and how well the track is  drying out.

In addition to their own live racing, Gulfstream Park  and  Tampa Bay Downs on Friday and Saturday will have  simulcast betting on each other's races and on the full cards at Churchill  Downs.

We will have coverage of this weekend's racing at Churchill Downs and at the Florida tracks on this blog and on our web site.

Friday's Gulfstream; $700k Rainbow 6 Carryover

In Thursday's racing action, just 53 starters left the rain-soaked gates, the lowest tally since November 1, when all races were off the turf, as was today.

Three favorites were in the winners circle, amid 15 scratches on the day. No winner was over 7:1 race time odds, leading to yet another muted payouts.

Late Pick 5 paid: $490.00
Rainbow 6 paid: $635.80 to about 90 winners. The Rainbow 6 pool was $102,359.

Gulfstream's Thursday; Off-Turf, Carryovers

Gulfstream Park plans a 9-race card Thursday, amid muddy main track conditions, and a 35 to 55 percent of rain during race hours. First post will be 1:15 PM.  The track entries have been reduced to just 55 as of this morning with many horses scratched in the 6 turf races . Race 7 is the sole 2 year-old race on the dirt. The weather will be a handicapping challenge.

Who will be the surprise, odds-beating horse today?

In Sunday's action, 87 starters ran 11 races, with five favorites in the winners circle. No winner was over 9.5:1 race time odds, leading to some ho-hum payouts.

Here are the late race payouts for Sunday.

The Late Pick 4 paid: $737.15

Late Pick 5 paid: $929.10
Rainbow 6 paid: $962.28 to 166 winners. The Rainbow 6 pool was $288,016.

Carryovers:

The Rainbow 6 carryover is now up to $674,996, as the elusive single winner to this wager has yet to occur this meet.

The Super Hi-5 wager was not cashed in the last race Sunday, so that carryover will be $2,498. This wager needs 7 starters, so it's uncertain what race that will be, since race 4 is the first race with 7 starters on the program.

The Rainbow 6 will kicks off in race #4 on the dirt track at about a 2:45 PM Post Time.

Total track handle from all sources was $7.74 million Sunday.
