Gulfstream's Rainbow 6 Carryover is $460,818 for Friday

Gulfstream Park will have a carryover of $460,818 in the 20-cent Rainbow 6 on Friday, following a chalky day on Thursday.

Four favorites and two other horses at 6-1 or lower were the winners of the last six races.

There were 272 tickets with all six winners, each receiving a non-IRS reporting $435.88.

The carryover for Thursday was $409,894.  Bettors added $211,821--large for a Thursday-- to the Rainbow 6.

Because there were multiple winning tickets the carryover grew by about $50,000 and is now above $460,000.

All-sources handle on Thursday was $8,057,350, one of the largest weekday totals for the 2015-2016 meet.

Gulfstream will have 11 races on Friday, with first post of 12:35 p.m.  The Rainbow 6 begins on the sixth race, with scheduled post of 3:05 p.m.

All six races in the sequence are claimers. There are 69 entrants, including also eligibles.

Good luck!

The Rainbow 6 is a 20-cent only per combination bet, with multiple horses permitted in each leg. For example, a ticket with two horses in each race has 64 combinations and costs $12.80.

Gulfstream pays out the full Rainbow 6 pool of the day’s bets (minus the 20 percent takeout) plus the carryover only on days when there is just one ticket with all six winners.
On other days Gulfstream divides 70 percent of the day’s bets (minus the takeout) among those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent (minus takeout) is added to the carryover.

Gulfstream has gone 16 straight racing programs without a single Rainbow 6 winner. It was last hit on Jan. 13, for $76,799.38.

Gulfstream: A Look at Some Late Races

In the ninth, the Pletcher-trained Element and the Joe Sharp-trained Prince Vincenzo are the likely favorites.

We also like Firespike, who could be a good price. He was on the Kentucky Derby trail last year and has back class on turf.  He has a hot trainer in Mike Maker and a hot rider in Joel Rosario.

The  10th is a six-furlong optional claimer with some talented 3-YO fillies such as April Gaze from the Eddie Plesa Jr. barn and Scoff from the Michelle Nevin barn.

As a long-shot we also like It's High Time, trained by Jose Pinchin. She won last summer's six-furlong Desert Vixen at Gulfstream.  Her only finish lower than fourth was a recent eighth place on an off track.

Quiet Force Wins First Leg of Rainbow 6

Quiet Force, at 2-1, rallied on the outside to win the sixth at Gulfstream to start the Rainbow 6.

Javier Castellano rode the winner for trainer Mike Maker, for their third combined win of the day.  They won with
Ifyousnoozeyoulose  (try spelling that!) in the second and Madroos in the fifth.

Bettors plunged $211,821 into the Rainbow 6 today.  That is added to the $409,894 carryover.

In case you get knocked out in the Rainbow 6, Gulfstream has plenty of ways to try to catch up. We'll be back to look at  today's 9th and 10th race co-features.
