Tampa Bay: Fifth Race is Saturday Feature

 By Bob Bauer

Tampa Bay Downs presents a ten-race card for Saturday. Conditions are Fast and Firm.

Today's play is in race 5. Post time is 2:19 p.m. Coverage will begin at 2:17 p.m. on RadioStPete  online and will have track announcer Richard Grunder's live call.

Sophomore Maiden Fillies will travel a mile and one-sixteenth on the turf under $32,000 Claiming conditions.

This race has a pair of contenders from smart barns dropping into Claiming company for the first time. This move is considered to be one of the strongest angles in the game. NOT SHY (5) appears to be in a good spot, having earned the top turf figure in this field with Maiden Special foes on March 14. The Graham Motion barn wins at a 29% clip with first time Maiden Claimers.

FANNY (6), will drop in here after a single dull race on the local lawn. She comes from the powerful Delacour outfit (25% wins) and should not be ignored.

THE BET   $10 to win on NOT SHY (5) and a $5 exacta box with FANNY (6) 5,6. Also a $2 exacta box with those two and LADY DOMINANCE (4) 4,5,6.  Total Bet  $32  GOOD LUCK!!

PREVIOUS RESULTS   4/2   The win bet was third, had first and third in the exacta. Lost $22, the bankroll is $809.30 from the $1,000. start.

BAUER'S BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

 By Bob Bauer

Tampa Bay Downs has a nine-race program on Friday, with first Post scheduled for 12:23 PM.

Friday's feature is Race 5, Post time 2:27 PM. A wide-open field of sophomore Fillies will go a grassy mile under $40,000 Optional claiming conditions. RadioStPete online live coverage including legendary announcer Richard Grunder will start at 2:25.

Going to take a chance with a fast Filly making her turf debut here. STRIKING CHROME (3) from the stable of leading trainer Gerald Bennett, may be ready to roll. This daughter of CALIFORNIA CHROME appears to be faster than her rivals. If she can duplicate that form on the lawn, she can beat these. Her Dam, ISLAND STRIKER (SMART STRIKE) has had three foals, all are winners, two on turf. The Bennett barn (24%) is known for placing their runners where they can win. Regular rider Roberto Alvarado Jr., who has scored a pair of victories on this Filly earlier this season, retains the mount.

THE BET  $10 to win STRIKING CHROME (3) and a $2 exacta box with MISS TOURISTA (7) and GOLDEN OLDIE(5).   3,5,7   Total Bet $22       GOOD LUCK!!

PREVIOUS RESULTS  3/31  Had the win and exacta. The $10 win bet returned $30., $3 exacta was good for $34.50, a total return of $64.50 on the $28 in bets. The bankroll is now $831.30 from the $1000. start.
