BAUER'S BETS: Fast & Firm at Tampa

Today promises to present a plethora of betting action at the Downs. Festival Preview Day features a program of a dozen races, highlighted by the Grade 3 $250,000 Sam F. Davis Stakes.

Here are my bets for the Stakes events.

Race 8  $175,000 Grade 3 Endevour Stakes 
Older Fillies & Mares, One mile and one-sixteenth, Turf

GOT STORMY (7) is probably the best turf racing Mare in America.
THE BET  $25 to win on GOT STORMY (7) and $5 exactas with ALTHEA (2) ALDINA DEL SUR (4) and PHANTOM OPENING (8).  7/ 2,4,8.  Total Bet $40.

RACE 9  $150,000 Suncoast Stakes, Three year-old Fillies, One mile and forty yards.

COMICAL (5) gets class relief after facing Graded Stakes foes in her last 5 outings. Runs well fresh, Rosario rides for Asmussen.
THE BET $20 to win on COMICAL (5) and a $2 exacta box with MOTU (4) and BLAME DEBBY (7). 4,5,7. Total Bet $32

RACE 10  $175,000 Grade 3 Tampa Bay Stakes, Four year-old and upward. One mile and one-sixteenth, Turf.

CARIBOU CLUB (4), is multiple Graded Stakes winner on the lawn. Has been training in Oldsmar since January 3, four local works. Very sharp now, Jose Ortiz rides for Tom Proctor.
THE BET $20 to win on CARIBOU CLUB (4) and a $2 exacta box with MARCH TO THE ARCH (1) and REAL STORY (8).      1,4,8    Total Bet $32.

Race 11  $250,000 Grade 3 Sam F. Davis Stakes
Three year-old, One mile and one-sixteenth

INDEPENDENCE HALL (4) is the one to beat as he seeks to extend his perfect 3 for 3 record. A repeat of his effort in the Grade 3 Nashua Stakes last November at Aquaduct, will win here.

Gulfstream Off the Turf on Friday

Gulfstreamm is halfway through Friday's ten-race card for which the three scheduled-for-turf races have beem moved to the dirt track that is listed as Good.

Gulfstream made tjat decision after hjeavy  rain on Friday morning.

Of the remaining races, only the sixth was scheduled for tuirf/  It will be run at one mile on dirt, 

There are sevem startets remaining --  2,3,4,5. 8.9 and 11..   The  race will go to post at  approximately  3:40 p/m.

The sixth race will be the start of the  Late   Pick 5. 

Luixury Suite  (4). at  6-1. won the fifth race tostart rhe Rainbow 6.

The  carryover coming in was $285,713. Bettors   added  $262,687 to ther Rainbow  6.

Today's play is in Race 6, Post time 3:16 PM. Older (four and up) $8,000 NW2L Claiming Fillies and Mares travel a mile and forty yards on the main track.

OUR PETUNIA (6) has an early pace advantage over these and should get a comfortable lead right from the gate under top rider Antonio Gallardo. She is the only runner to have won on an off track, there could be moisture in the racing surface after heavy rain last night. This four year-old filly ran second after having the lead in her only try at this distance. Can get there today.

THE BET $20 to win on OUR PETUNIA (6) and a $5 exacta box with ELUSIVE RIDER (3) 3,6. Also, a $2 exacta box with those two and CARAMEL MOON (4). 3,4,6. Total Bet $42.

Odds-on MrAtila Wins First Leg of Rainbow 6

Mr. Atila (6). at 4-5, won Gulfstream's  fifth race on Thursday to start the Rainbow 6.

The field had only four horses, due to scratches.  It is  certain that almost all bettors had Mr. Atila on tickets, and it is likely that many singled him.

Bettors added $214,687 to the Rainbow 6.  The carryover coming in was $234,194.

That adds up to just under  $449,000 thus enabling Gulfstream  to not put in money to achieve its  $400,000 guarantee
