Breeders' Cup Classic Selections, and Analysis

Post time is 8:44 p/m. Eastern (5:44 p.m. Pacific) for today's $6 million Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia. Calif.
The race is 1 1/4 miles on dirt for 3-year-olds and up and will be part of a live telecast by NBC's over-the-air stations.
Here are the post positions with trainers, jockeys and morning line odds--followed by our suggested bets.

6 -- Elate has won at 1 1/4 miles three times and has beaten the boys. Mott trainee has been working well, and we look for her to get a good trip..
8 -- McKinzie, trained by Baffert, has been ultra-consistent on both coasts.
10 -- Vino Rosso won this year's Gold Cup at Santa Anita, and comes west again for Pletcher.
7 -- Higher Power won the Pacific Classic at Del Mar and is on upswing for Sadler, who trained last year's BC Classic winner Accelerate.
11 -- Code of Honor, trained by McGaughey, is this season's best 3-YO and has a win at 1 1/4 miles in Travers.
2 -- Seeking the Soul is coming off two down efforts, but before that had Grade 1 breakthrough win in Stephen Foster at Churchill. Trainer Dallas Stewart has a knack for hitting the board with longshots in big races.
Rainbow 6 Opening Leg Won by 9-2 Shot
King Guillermo (7), at 9-2, shot out to the lead and went on to win by eight lengths in Saturday's fifth race at the Gulfsstream Park West meet.
The race was the start of the Rainbow 6. with a carryover coming in of $461,894. Bettors added $153,276 to the Rainbow 6 pool.
The day's two feature races are coming up, both at one mile on the turf course that is listed as Firm.
*The 7th race is the $75,000 Cellars Shiraz for 3-year-old fillies.
*The 9th race is the $75,000 Showing Up for 3-year-old males.
The race was the start of the Rainbow 6. with a carryover coming in of $461,894. Bettors added $153,276 to the Rainbow 6 pool.

In Friday's racing action, 9 races were run, with 4 favorites entered the winners circle. The high odds winner was just 9:1 in the last race, so the payouts were normal for day 21 of the race meet. Handle was a respectable $5.03 million.
The first stakes races this meet will be the Cellars Shiraz in race 7, and the Showing Up Stakes in race 9; both carry $75,000 purses. The Cellars Shiraz (3 y/o fillies) lists 8 entries, with Red Rounder at a 5:2 ML favorite, and the Showing up (3 y/o) lists 11 entries with Scraps the favorite at 9:5.

Santa Anita's Breeders' Cup Notables
There will be five Breeders' Cup races at Santa Anita Park on Friday--all for 2-year-olds and with 63 entrants including Also Eligibles.
But only two of those horses have raced in Florida.
They are Two Sixty in the $2 million Juvenile Fillies (Grade 1), race 7 at 5:32 pm and Graceful Kitten in the $1 million Juvenile Turf (Grade 1). It goes to post at 4:52 pm in race 6.
They are coming into the Breeders' Cup, in Arcadia, Calif., off gate-to-wire victories in stakes races on Sept. 28 at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla.
Both will be racing away from Gulfstream's spring-summer meets for the first time, and both will be making their graded stakes debuts.
Thus, in the wagering, they will be dealing with pre-conceived bias from some handicappers.
However, Two Sixty's stakes-record win in the $400,000 My Dear Girl Stakes was so fast that she has been attracting some buzz and could go off in the 10-1 range in a nine-horse field.
Graceful Kitten is unbeaten in three starts, including the Armed Forces Stakes on Sept. 28. But he probably will be among the longest shots in the Juvenile Turf's full 14-horse field.
It is not unusual for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile races to have just several horses that have raced in Flonrida.
A main reason is that many top national trainers, such as Todd Pletcher and Bill Mott, race their top 2-year-olds at tracks in New York and in Kentucky duiring the summer and fall. In December they bring many of those horses to Florida to race duirng the winter at Gulfstream or at Tampa Bay Downs in Oldsmar.
Finishes in the money, let alone wins, have been rare for Florida horses in Breeders' Cup Juvenile races.
A notable exception was in 2010 when Awesome Feather won the Juvenile Fillies at Churcjoll Downs.
Prior to the Breeders' Cup, Awesom,e Feather swept the theee-race fillies division of the Florida Sire Stakes, then run at Calder in Miami GHardens. Those races are restricted to Florida-breds who are sons or daughters of Florida-registered stallions whose owners have nominated them for the progrsam.
Awesome Feather was owned by Fred and Jane Brei's Jacks or Better Farm in Ocala. She was trained by Stan Gold and ridden by Jeffrey Sanchez.
The five Breeders' Cup races are part of a ten-race card at Santa Anita. Gulfstream and Tampa Bay Downs will have simulcast wagerig on the full card. The five Brereders' Cup races will betelevised live on the NBC Sports cable channel.
Two Sixty's name stems from his purchasse price of $260,000.
Gary Barbrer paid that amount for him at the March, 2019 sale at the Ocala Breeders.
