G.P. West - Recap and Sunday's Card

Gulfstream Park West plans 10 races on Sunday, with first post time at 1:15 PM ET.

Five of those are turf races (#1,3,5,7,9), while races 6,7 and 10 feature two-year-olds. There are 94 entries for Sunday, with 64 of those in the last 6 races (#5-10). The Rainbow 6 commences with race 5 at approx. 3:13 PM.

Saturday’s racing action found 94 starters (6 scratches), and an average day on the odds board. Five favorites won entry into the winners circle. The late wagers paid with little fan fare.

The late Pick-4 and Pick-5 paid $271 and $640 respectively, while the Rainbow 6 paid $1,508 to 12 winner of 6 of 6 on their tickets. This Land, at 7:1 was the highest odds winner in race 9, besting Put the Hat Back by 1/2 length. This Land was jockeyed by Hector Berrios and trained and owned by Juan Arriagada. The horse now
has 2 wins in its 6 lifetime starts.

Sunday’s carryover is the Rainbow 6 at $19,740. Total handle was $5.348 million.

Friday's Gulfstream Park West; 1:15 PM Post Time

Gulfstream Park West plans 8 races on its Friday card, with a chance of more off-turf races due to rains and soggy grass. First post will be 1:15 PM ET.
Thursday's action saw the four turf races diverted to the dirt track, and 9 scratched horses on those races. Three two-year-old races for Friday (#5,6,8) will make handicapping difficult for the late wagers and the multi-race bets.

The late pick-4 and pick-5 have no carryovers, while the Rainbow 6 has a $7,685 carryover.

There were 9 winners on the Rainbow Thursday, with a $1,142 payoff. The daily pool and jackpot are so small now that we don't expect much interest until they both grow.
Wednesday's pool was just $13,675, with 2 winners tallied to earn $3,827 each.
Just 57 starters on Thursday didn't seem to aid the payoffs; the late pick 5 and pick 4 paid $645 and $320 respectively.

Gulfsream Park West Opens Meet with 40 Day Schedule

Gulfstream Park West opens it’s two month meet today, with 8 races and a first post time of 1:15 PM ET. G.P. West will run it’s Fall Festival of racing through November 25th, with 40 days of live racing.
The Stronach Group has contracted with Churchill Down’s – the owner of the property – to run and manage the meet; contractually through the 2020 race season.

There are 8 races scheduled today, with 77 entries and a $198,500 purse total. All races are claiming races, with race 4 a two-year-old maiden claimer.
The Rainbow 6 wager starts anew today with a $0 carryover, in race 3 with a 2:20 PM post time. 61 starters are expected in the 6 races (3-8).

On Sunday, the Hallandale track, located 8 miles east, ended it’s summer meet. The end of that meet yielded 11 races and a weird day of favorites winning the late races. The multiple race payoffs were painfully low. Five of the last 6 races were won by the favorite horses, so that resulted in these payouts:

Late Pick 4: $15.85
Late Pick 5: $38.80
Rainbow 6: $71.32

Our data from Equibase and other sources estimate there were about 10,900 winners on the Rainbow 6 ! The pool was $807,047. That’s just crazy, showing the system in action in para mutuel wagering.

Handicapping the Gulfstream Park West races will be no easy feat, as bettors and horses will no doubt need some time to adjust to the track conditions. Last year (2017), this meet opened with 3 days of rain, where all races were taken off the turf. Not the case so far weather-wise this year.

So brace yourself for some excitement and fun the next 7-1/2 weeks of racing at Gulfstream Park West.
