Gulfstream's Thurday Racing; $817,000 Rainbow Carryover

Gulfstream Park plans an 10-race card Thursday as it opens it's 4 day race week. No stakes races are planned, but a 2 year-old jaunt is race 8 - a maiden claimer for fillies and mares -on the dirt at 4-1/2 furlongs. R Sea Smoke is the M/L favorite at 6:5 in the field of 6. The Rainbow 6 encompases races 5-10, so this one will be a tough handicap in that sequence.

With all the hoopla, and then some, focused the past few days on the controversial Kentucky Derby and the sport of horse racing, Gulfstream keeps South Florida enthusiasts busy with year-round racing.

In the last day of racing Sunday, 69 starters left the gates, and clear skies let all the turf races take place unabated. No favorites won Sunday, resulting in some nice payouts. The one standout was a 23:1 winner Salsa Rita in race 4.

Forty-five starters competed in the Rainbow 6 races, where the high-odds winner was Red Crescent at 12:1. Here are the late race payouts that stood out.

Early Pick 5: $12,153

Late Pick 4 paid: $2,272.75
Late Pick 5 paid: $76,417.30
Rainbow 6 paid: $23,659.04  to 5 winners. The Rainbow 6 pool was $211,275.

The Late Pick 5 win was a head-scratcher - No favorite finished worse than 4th in those 5 races: 2nd, 2nd, 4th, third, third - the $76,417 payout was most likely to 2-3 bettors given the pool size.

Carryovers:

The sole carryover will be the Rainbow 6 carryover at $817,190, as the elusive single winner to this wager has yet to occur this meet, now entering it's 21st race day.

The Rainbow 6 will kicks off in race #5 at about a 3:15 PM Post Time.

Total track handle from all sources was $6.34 million Friday.

Enjoy your race day!
