Gulfstream Rainbow 6 Hit for $69,000

There was just one winning ticket on the Rainbow 6 at Gulfstream Park on Thursday, and it paid $69,256.40 on the 20-cent only bet.

A key to the Rainbow 6  being “taken down” was a win by 80-1 shot My Chinumado  in the ninth race—the second-to-last race in the sequence. None of the other Rainbow 6 winning horses were higher than 8-1.
The numbers of the six winning horses were 4-7-4-5-2-3.

Gulfstream will begin a new Rainbow 6 pool on Friday.
First post will be 2:00 p.m. for a nine-race card. The Rainbow 6 will be on races four to nine, with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m
.
Thursday was the third day for the latest Rainbow 6 carryover—and it was $24,847 coming into the day.

Bettors added $55,536 to the Rainbow 6. The winning ticket collected 80 percent of the day’s bet, plus the entire carryover.

On days with multiple winning Rainbow 6 tickets Gulfstream takes out 20 percent of the day’s Rainbow 6 bet, divides 56 percent of it among tickets with six winners and adds 24 percent to the carryover.

My Chinumado’s win also led to a big payoff in the Late Pick 5—and apparently just one ticket with all five winners.

The amount bet was $46,978, with a 15 percent takeout.

The payoff for the minimum bet of 50 cents was $29,948.35.

Tickets with  four of five  winners were paid $42.75.
Thursday was the fourth time in the last fourteen race days that there has been just one winning ticket in the Gulfstream Rainbow 6.

That supports our view that early in the carryover cycle is the time to play the Rainbow 6 if your goal is to be the only winner rather than being content to be among multiple winners.

Our review of Equibase charts shows that Rainbow 6 betting grows significantly when the carryover rises above $200,000.

Then, it appears that more betting syndicates and heavy betting individuals known as whales increase their Rainbow 6  wagers.

That includes going ALL in some races.

At that point, the chances of there being multiple
tickets that included My Chinumado would generally have been higher than they were on Thursday. That would have lessened the chances of there being just one winning Rainbow 6  ticket.

Benny the Bull Preview

The $100,000 Benny the Bull Stakes is coming up at Gulfstream, as the 11th race with scheduled post of 6:03 p.m.

It is for Florida-bred 3-year-olds and up at seven furlongs on the dirt track that is sloppy  and sealed.

The field is down to seven with scratches of Rupp (5) and Zipping (7).

Speed has held up all day.  For that reason our pick to  win is Splash Rules (9) who is on the outside among several horses with early speed.  We look for Sweetontheladies (2)  to make a late run and finish second.

Travers Selections

The $1.25 million Travers (Grade 1) is coming up at Saratoga Race Course.

The Travers is 1 1/4 miles on dirt for 3-year-olds and is the 11th race with scheduled post of 5:40 p.m.

The field has ten horses, following the scratch of Mastermind (6).

Skies are clear, and temperatures are in the low 80s.

Here is our predicted order of finish (program numbers in parentheses)

1 --  Good Magic (9)
2 -- Gronkowski (3)
3 -- King Zachary (7)
4 -- Wonder Gadot (2)
5-- Catholic  Boy (11)

Rainbow 6 Opener Won by 2-1 Shot

More Illusions (9) at 2-1 won Gulfstream's seventh race to start the Rainbow 6.

Bettors put $48,946 into a new Rainbow 6 pool.

Rainbow t 6 coming up at Gp

The seventh race iks coming up at Gulfstream Park with a scheduled post of 3:52 p.m.

But it likely will be asfew minutes later than that, because rain has slowed the proceedings at Gulfstream.

The seventh race is the start of the Rainbow 6, and it will have a new pool.

On Thursday there was just one ticket with the winning horses in all six Rainbow 6  races. It paid
$165,629.76 on the 20-cent only bet.

That was a combination of the full carryover of $95,804 and 80 percent of Friday's Rainbow 6 pool of $87,340.

Rain forced Gulfstream to move the 8th, 10th and 12th races from turf to the dirt track that is sealed and listed as Sloppy.  But even with numerous scratches, there are still 57 entrants in the Rainbow 6 races.
--Jim Freer

Gulfstream Offf the Turf

Gulfstream Friday Preview

The dirt track is listed as Fast and the turf course is listed as firm for Friday's ten-race card at Gulfstream Park, with first post at 2:00 p.m.

The 1:00 p.m. temperature is 93 degrees in Hallandale Beach.  The Weather Channel forecast is for a 15 percent chance of rain during racing hours.

Gulfstream's Friday Card; 10 Races

Continuing its summer racing program, Gulfstream Park will run 10 races Friday, with the first post time at 2:00 PM ET.

Track conditions are fast and firm as of Friday morning. There are no stakes races.
Thursday's action saw a continuing carryover of the popular Rainbow-6, where a nice payout of $7,949 was had by just 4 winning bettors.
Just one favorite had the win in the sequence, races 5-10, and the last race winner was 27:1, which no doubt knocked out a lot of bets from consideration. The pool was a lowly $56,797 as they are on summer weekdays.
The 43 starters in this wager was low; a good chance to go deep in some legs. With a carryover of $95,804, we expect lower pools as Gulfstream competes with Saratoga for wagering dollars.
The Super Hi-5 carryover Friday will be $3,150, and the Rainbow 6 start will be race 5 at 4:00 pm post.

Thursday's Rainbow 6 Handle Was Lowest of 2018 at Gulfstream

Gulfstream  Park will have a two-day-old carryover of $23,866 on its Rainbow 6 on Friday.

That will follow Thursday's card when betting on the Rainbow 6 was $38,858. HorseRacingFLA's
data base shows that was the lowest betting on Gulfstream's Rainbow 6 since $31,466 on Dec. 8, 2017.

Thursday's low Rainbow 6 handle can be attributed to several factors

*It is very early in a Rainbow 6 cycle,  Many syndicates and heavy-betting individuals known as "whales" apparently are not yet betting large amounts on the Rainbow 6.

*Thursdays are usually the lowest handle days during the Thursday through Sunday schedule of Gulfstream's summer meet.

This Thursday, total handle on ten races was $4,156,671.  That was the second lowest total handle on the seven Thursdays of the Gulfstream meet that began on July 1.

*Gulfstream this month is competing with Saratoga Race Course for simulcast and    Advance Deposit Wagering bettors.

Friday's first  post  will be 2:00 p.m. for a 10-race card.  The Rainbow 6 will be on races five through ten with the sequence set to start at 4:00 p.m.

The first race has a carryover of $1.392 on the Super Hi.-5.

On Thursday there were 25 tickets with the winners of all six Rainbow 6 races/ Each was paid  $860.22 on the 20-cent-only bet.

Program numbers for the winning horses were 8-12-2-5-6-2.

Three of the winners were favorites. Odds on the other winning horses were 8-1, 9-1 and 4-1.
The carryover coming in was $14,548.

Bettors added $38,858   to the pool. Gulfstream took out 20 percent of Thursday's bet. It then divided 56 percent among the tickets with six winners and added 24 percent to the carryover.

When there is just one  ticket with  all sixwinners, Gulfstream pays out  80  percent of the day's Rainbow 6  bet plus the full carryover.

GP Carried-Over Siuper Hi-5 Pays

The carryover coming in from Sunday was $18,535.  Bettors added $63,890, following the pattern of larger than usual wagering on the Super Hi-5 when there is a large carryover and several days to handicap.
Chocolate Charlie at 5-2 won the race.
The order of finish was 5-4-7-2-3.

There is a carryover of $18,535.20 on the Super Hi-5—on the day’s first race with seven or more starters. Handicappers have three days to prepare, and that is  a situation where past betting patterns indicate that $100,000 or more could be bet on the Super Hi-5.

Gulfstream offers that bet on all races with seven or more starters.

Thursday’s first race has seven entrants. If there are any scratches, the Super Hi-5 will first be offered on the second race—with nine entrants and not likely to have more than two scratches.

Rainbow 6
On Sunday there were 42 tickets with the winners of all six Rainbow 6 races. Each paid $817.56 on the 20 cents per combination-only bet.

Bettors wagered $60,645 on the Rainbow 6.
Per its rules on days with multiple winning tickets, Gulfstream: took out 20 percent, divided 56 percent among tickets with six winners and put 24 percent into a new carryover.

Sunday was the first day of a new Rainbow 6 pool.

On Saturday there was just one ticket with the winners of all six Rainbow 6 races.  It took down the jackpot of $60,708.

Super Hi-5
The carryover on Thursday is the result of no winning Super Hi-5 tickets on any of the last four races that offered it.

The bet is $1 minimum. It requires picking the order of finish for the first five horses, with no consolation payoffs such as the first four places.

If there are no winning tickets, Gulfstream takes out 17 percent and adds the remainder to the carryover.

As the Super Hi-5 carryover grows, it becomes what we call a “Gold Rush bet.”

On most Gulfstream races, betting on the Super Hi-5 is in the $2,000 to $4,000 range.
A growing carryover attracts bettors who were not part of that earlier betting and are, in effect, seeking to cash in on money that other bettors have lost.

Desert Vixen Previewt

Today's 13th and final race at Gulfstream is the $100,000 Desert Vixen at six furlongs on dirt.

It is this year's first race in the two-year-old fillies division of the Florida Sire Stakes series.

There are 14 entrants--thus offering potential for some big exacta and trifecta payoffs.

Starry Affair (4)  is our pick to win. Others worthy of win consideration are Nancysaidso (3),Capture Your Dream (9) and Valkyrie Gold (12).

The team of owner Arindel and trainer Stan Gold has five horses entered.
t
They are Capriati (5), Cookie Dough (6), Bimini  (7), Snowzilla (10) and Samoa (10).

We suggest that you put at least one or two, preferably Capriati, in a four-horse exacta box.

Dr. Fager Preview

Based on impressive wins in his only two starts--both at Gulfstream Park--Fully Loaded will almost certainly be the heavy favorite in today's $100,000 Dr. Fager Stakes at Gulfstream.

'The Dr. Fager is six furlongs on dirt, for Florida-bred 2-year-old males who meet eligibility  requirements for the Florida Sire Stakes series.

It is the 12th race with scheduled post  of 6:04 p.m.

The Dr. Fager has ten entrants, all carrying 118 pounds. Fully Loaded is the only horse in the field with more than one win.

He won at five furlongs on May 29 and at 5 1/2 furlongs on July 6.  In his second victory, he won by 7 1/2 lengths.

Edgard Zayas rode  Fully Loaded in both of those races and has the mount again on Saturday for trainer Jose Pinchin.

The field also has Take Command, Jackson and Cajun Firecracker--all with one win  at Gulfstream in their only starts.

Those three horses and Fully Loaded have all shown early speed.

If a speed dual develops, it could help the chances of Nacho Papa.

Garbar Boy is coming off a win at 7 1/2 furlongs on turf at Gulfstream.  He is 20-1 in the morning line, and could be a live long shot.

Like other races for 2-year-olds at this stage of the year, the outcome could depend partly on how some of the first out winners react to having horses racing head-to-head with them and/or to having dirt kicked in their faces.

Our  selections
1 -- Fully Loaded (6)
2 -- Take Command (8)
3 -- Garbar Boy (5)
4 -- Nacho Papa (3)
5 -- Cajun Firecracker (7)

Friday is the 20th day of the 55-day meet that began on July 1 and will end on Sept. 29.

Jockeys
Tyler Gaffalione, the summer meet champion in 2016 and 2017,  leads with 21 wins and is followed by Emisael Jaramillo with 19.

Miguel Angel Vazquez is third with 16 victories. Samy Camacho and Reylu Gutierrez have 13 wins each and are tied for fourth place.

This weekend at Gulfstream, Gaffalione is named on three mounts on Friday and eleven on Saturday.

He is scheduled to ride at Ellis Park in Henderson, Ky., on Sunday and at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., on Monday.

Gaffalione led jockeys in wins at this year's Gulfstream spring meet and was second in wins to Luis Saez in Gulfstream's 2017-2018 championship meet.

Gulfstream's Thursday Card: 9 Races

Thursday's racing kicks off at 2:00 PM with its 'twilight card' of 9 races.

Many of the recent races have been taken off the turf - 16 of 17 - in last weeks racing due to overnight rains in South Florida, so that's complicated the handicapping.

It'll be day 19 of the summer meet began July 1st.

Sunday's results:

The popular Rainbow 6 jackpot grew Sunday to $589,473, as 13 winners each pocketed $6,380 with all races off-the-turf. Three days of 14:1 or higher odds winners helped boost the Rainbow 6 payouts on 6 of 6 wagering.

Thursday's race card will include 53 scheduled entries in races 4-9 (the Rainbow 6 sequence), a relatively low total. We expect a pool size of about $150,000. The late pick-4, pick-5 and Super Hi-5 have no carryovers.

Race 4 starts the Rainbow 6, with an approximate post of 3:30 PM.
