Bauer's Bets: Today's Results

Today's play of the day went down. The choice BILLY BIG (7) in Race 3, turned out to be a false favorite. We lost $18, the deficit is now $443. Let's try again on Friday.

Bauer's Bets: Fast & Firm at Tampa, Wednesdays Play Of The Day

BILLY BIG (7) should get the job done in Race 3 for the powerful Stidham outfit. This one ships in from the Fairgrounds and appears to be a bit faster than the rivals he faces today. THE BET $20 to win on BILLY BIG (7) at 2-1 or better. If not, bet three $6 doubles with WHISKEY TRAIL (1), COWTOWN DUDE (4) and PITCH PERFECTION (8) in Race 4. GOOD LUCK

Vaccarezzas Still Raising Funds for Families of Parkland Victims

At a fund raising event held on Sunday  Feb. 25, thoroughbred owner Carlo Vaccarezza and his family raised approximately  $160,000 for families of victims in the Feb. 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.

The event was held at Frank & Dino’s restaurant, which Vaccarezza owns, in Boca Raton.

Frank & Dino’s will continue to accept donations for “at least a couple more days,” Vaccarezza said on Tuesday. Donations can be made by contacting Frank & Dino’s at (561) 218-4636.

Vaccarezza’s sons Nick and Mike are students at Stoneman Douglas.  They were both at the school on Feb. 14, and were among students who were not harmed.

Two horses that Vaccarezza campaigned, Little Nick and Little Mike, were named for his sons.
In 2012, Little Mike won three Grade 1  turf stakes—the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Santa Anita, the Woodford Reserve at Churchill Downs and the Arlington Million at Arlington Park.

Favorites Win First Two Legs of Rainbow 6

The 6-5  favorite Got Stormy (2) won the eighth race and the 45-5 favorite Mo Smart (5) won the ninth race, to start Sunday's  Rainbow 6 sedquence at Gulfstream.

The carryover coming in was $1,639,780.  Bettors added  $578,643 to the Rainbow 6 pool.  THe carryover has kept growing because Gulfstream has gone  20 straight  race days without the jackpot payof f requirememnt of just one ticket with all six Rainb ow 6 winners.

If low odds horses keep winning, Gulfstream will again take out  20 percent of today's Rainbow 6 pool, divide 56 percent among  holders of  winning  tickets and added 24 percent to  the carryover.

Bauer's Bets: Today's Report, A Win At Last!

We finally got one home! Our selection in Race 4, ON THE HOP (6) was an easy winner, although the exacta box went down. We collected $32 for a $20 investment, a profit of $12. Not a great score, but a step in the right direction for sure. The deficit is now $425. Wednesday is another day, perhaps we can continue on the way to solvency.

Bauer's Bets: Fast & Firm at Tampa, Sunday's Play Of The Day

ON THE HOP (6) appears to be in a good spot in Race 4, dropping from $25,000 open claiming company to $8,000 non-winners of three lifetime races. She comes into this event off an ok third place finish with higher class rivals. Veteran trainer Joan Scott wins at 29% with this move.
THE BET: $10 to win on ON THE HOP (6) and a $5 exacta box with FREAKIN' ME OUT (1).
Total bet $20. GOOD LUCK

The 21-1 shot Dancing Donut (11) won the eighth race to syart the sequence.

Bettors added $732,685 to the Rainbow 6  pool.  That is the fourth largest Rainnbow 6 betting day of the current championship meet.

The bad luck continues, our choice ARABIAN QUEEN finished fourth and we lost another $20. The deficit is now $457. Tomorrow is another day.

ouintdown to Rainbow 6

The screen says zero to post,  But you still have about three minutes to bet the Rainbow 6 and the $1 Super Hi-5 with a $15,160 carryover at Gulfstream.

The Rainbow 6  pool has just gone over $2 million

It's Guarantee Time at Gulfstream

The eighth race, with scheduled post of 3:31 p.m., is coming up at Gulfstream Park.

It will be the start of the 20 cent only Rainbow 6. The carryover has grown to  $1,463,984.

Gulftream has guarantreed that the pool for the The Raionbow 6 will be at least $2 million.  That means that  Gulfstream will have to put in some money if today's Rainbow 6  wagering is not at least $537,000.

Also on Saturday, Gulfstream has these guaranteees:

*Late Pick 5 --  Races9 to 13; $250,000 guarantee, 50 cent minimum bet

*Late Pick 4 -- races 10  to  13; $300,000 guaantee; 50cent minimum bet

Bauer's Bets: Fast & Firm at Tampa, Saturday's Play Of The Day

ARABIAN QUEEN (2) in Race 6 is the best bet for today. This six-year-old mare has shown much improvement in her last pair of races on the dirt. Prior to that she had several dull attempts on the grass. It appears that she lays over this group and has beaten many of the foes she faces here. She will probably be too short a price for a win bet. THE BET- Play a $5 Double Part Wheel with TAYANNA (1), FEISTY CHILI (4), EXCLUSIVE EXPRESS (6) & SIBILANT (7) in Race 7.
2 with 1,4,6,7  Total Bet $20  GOOD LUCK

Bauer's Bets: Today's Report

The bad luck continues, not only did our selection BRAVE REQUEST (2) not win, he finished dead last, just to add insult to injury. It appears that something went wrong, he never got into the race. Lost another $32, the deficit is now $437.

Bauer's Bets: Fast & Firm at Tampa Friday's Play Of The Day

Found a longshot with a huge chance today and and maybe we can make up some ground here. In Race 7, BRAVE REQUEST (2) is worth a bet at  8-1 on the morning line. Leading trainer Kathleen O'Connell entered this gelding on the turf last time, but the race was rained off, BRAVE REQUEST rallied and was a game second under leading jock Tony Gallardo. Gallardo stays aboard for this grass attempt today. Also he has the best late pace in this field and he may get a good set up to nail the dueling speedsters. THE BET: $10 win & place on BRAVE REQUEST (2), also, a $2 exacta box with BEYOND THE NILE (3) and NEW NEL (10). Total bet $32. GOOD LUCK

Bauer's Bets: Today's Report

Another loss, our selection BERENI (2) in race 1 was a major bust able to run no better than fifth. Lost $24. The deficit is now $405.

Bauer's Bets: Fast & Firm At Tampa, Thursday's Play OF The Day

Found a runner in Race 1 that may help regain some of the losses incurred lately. BERENI (2) is worth backing at morning line odds of 8-1. He is lightly raced (2) and drops in from Gulfstream where he had faced $20,000 rivals. Today the price tag is $8,000 and he appears to be the only early speed in this field. THE BET: Race 2 is a wide open affair and could be won by a big priced horse. Play a $2 double 2 with ALL in race 1. Also a $5 exacta box BERENI (2) with MT. KATAHIDIN (1). Total Bet $24. GOOD LUCK

GP Super High 5 Pays $1,135

The carried-over Super Hi-5 was hit in the third race at Gulfstream Wednesday, and it paid $1,134.80 on the minimum $1 bet.

The number of winning tickets could not be readily determined.

The 6-5 favorite Mojo's Queen won the race and Dana's Ride (5) at 13-1 finished econd.

The order of finish was 7-5-4-1-6.

The carryover coming into the race was $15,981.  Bettors added $38,494 to the Super Hi 5 pool.

--Jim Freer

Bauer's Bets: The worst beat of all

Our choice in Race 3, ORIGINATOR (3) ran a great race and did everything but win. She dueled in the stretch with JEHOZOCAT (5) and they were together on the wire. You guessed it, ORIGINATOR lost the photo by a nose or less, just have to shake it off.  Lost $25. The deficit is now $381.

GP High 5 Carrover Tops $15,000

Gulfstream has a Super Hi-5 carryover of $15,891.53 in its third race, with a scheduled  post of 1:35 p.m.

There are only seven entrants and the pool could grow to $50,000.

It is  5  furlongs on turf for fillies and mares 4-YO and up, with a $16,000 claiming price.

We suggest the late-running Cashless Society (4) and speedy Murray's Girl as two to build your bets around.

-Jim Freer

Bauer's Bets: Fast & Firm at Tampa Wednesday's Play Of The Day

ORIGINATOR (3) appears to have an edge in today's third race, a Turf mile for $75,000 Optional Claiming sophomore fillies. She ships in from Gulfstream with rider Chris Landeros after winning her Maiden debut by 3 lengths after a troubled trip, earning the best grass figure in this field. Veteran trainer Ian Wilkes has given this lass 4 workouts in the 5 weeks since that impressive victory. She should be ready to stretch out today from 5 panels to a mile, has good late pace, distance should not be a problem. There's alot to like here. The bet is $25 to win on ORIGINATOR (3).  GOOD LUCK

Bauer's Bets: Today's Results

Our choice in Race 7, TWIN CHANNEL (3) had a rough trip and ended up being placed fourth after being steadied over heels in the stretch. She probably wasn't going to win as she didn't get a clear lead out of the gate. We lost $26. the deficit is now $366.

Favorite Wins First Leg of Rainbow 6

In Sunday's seventh race at Gulfstream, the 2-1 favorite Octopythius took an early lead and rolled to a win over Bonus Card by a margin we estimate was about  ten lengths.

The race was the start of the Rainbow 6, with a  carryover coming in of $968,959.

Bettors added $431,318 to the Rainbow 6 pool.

Scheduled post for the race was 3:04 p.m.  Gulfstreasm could have gotten it off on time

But as ususal iin the fiirst leg of a multi race pool,
Gulfstream  delayed it for several minutes to build up  the pool.

Tenth and 12th Taken off Turf at GP1

Following rain this morning, Gulfstream has tsaken the tenth and 12th races off the turf and moved them to the dirt track that is listed as fast.

Those two races will be at seven furlongs on dirt. They had been scheduled for "about 7 1/2 furlongs on turf.

The seventh race is coming up with scheduled post of 3:04 p.m.   It is the start of the Rainbow 6 with a carryover of $968,959.

The seventh and eighth races are scheduled for dirt.

The ninth through 12th races were  all scheduled for turf.

Gulfstream has kept the ninth and 11th races on turf.  A central reason is that the  portable rail will be at 115 feet for those two races.  That is on the outer part of the wide Gulfstream turf course,  where water  is generally absorbed better than on the inner half.

The  rail was to  be  at 34 feet  for the tenth and 12th races.  Gulfstream apparently decided to be cautious, and not run those races on  the inner turf.

For  between race course maintenance purposes it would not have been practical to move them to today's outer part of the course.

Bauer's Bets: Fast & Firm at Tampa Sunday's Play Of The Day

Had a rough day yesterday, lost $45. The deficit is now $340. Maybe today will be better.
In Race 7, TWIN CHANNEL (3) is in a good spot. She almost wired a decent group of fillies in her debut on the local lawn at 8 1/2 furlongs. She turns back to a mile today and should graduate here. Bet $20 to win on TWIN CHANNEL (3) and a fifty cent trifecta part-wheel, 3 with 2,4,7,8 with 2,4,7,8. Total bet $26. GOOD LUCK

Gulfstream Racing on Monday, with Royal Delta Stakes

Gulfstream Park will have racing this Monday, Feb. 19, with a special Presidents Day card.

First post is 12:00 p.m. with a 12-race card.

The feature 11th race is the $200,000 Royal Delta Stakes (Grade 3) at one mile on dirt for fillies and mares 4-years-old and up.

The eight-horse field  is headed by Lewis Bay and Curlin's Approval.

For  those two horses, the Royal Delta will be a rematch of the Rampart Stakes (Grade 3), which also was one mile on dirt  at  Gulfstream on Dec. 16.

Lewis Bay, at 2-1, led at every call and won the Rampart by 1 1/4 lengths over the 3-2 favorite Curlin's Approval.

Bauer's Bets: Pick 5 Carryover Update.

The pick 5 got underway in Race 6 with a total pool of approximately $170,395 up for grabs. The sequence started with the 8-5 chalk IRISH MAJOR getting it done in the first leg. Almost everyone is still alive. GOOD LUCK to those who are.

Bauer's Bet's: A Terrible Tough Beat

Unkind racing luck continues as our Play of the Day horse La Gruny (2) in race 4 got caught at the wire to lose by a neck. Our exacta box horses were no where to be found. Lost $40. The deficit is now $295.00. This can be a rough game sometimes.

One Horse Singled in Rainbow 6 at GP

Heading into the 11th and final race at Gulfstream there are 39 live tickets in the Rainbow 6.

One ticket  has a single--Make Big Money (8).  There are ten runners  in the 7 1/2 furlong turf race. for older fillies and mares.  She is 9-1 with seven mnutes to post
If Make Big Money wins the ticket holder would take doown a jackpot of  about $900,000
--Jim Freer

Bauer's Bets: Another Tough Beat

Our choice in Race 4 Chicory Blue (1) ran second. The only good thing was that we lost $17 because the $10 double was cancelled with the scratch of JO JO'S SPENSIVE (1) in Race 5. The deficit now stands at $255. Tomorrow is another day.

Bauer's Bets: Fast & Firm at Tampa Thursday's Play Of The Day

An eight race program is on the card for a rare Thursday afternoon at the Downs. Racing will be conducted next Thursday, February 22, also. Then
the regular Tampa schedule will resume with a four day race week. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday will be dark.

CHICORY BLUE (1) looks to be much the best in Race 4, but may turnout to be too short a price for a win bet. If that is the case, let's try some doubles with contenders in Race 5. Play a $10 double with Chicory Blue (1) with  JO JO'S SPENSIVE (1). Also bet $3 doubles with the choice and SALSA LANE (2), NINETYEIGHTTWO (3), HIGHLAND PARK HERO (6) in Race 5. Bet a $1 pick 3 using all the above runners in races 4 & 5 with IMAGINABLE (1) and KEEP THE RING (9) In Race 6. Pick 3- 1 with 1,2,3,6 with 1,9. Total bet $27. If the choice CHICORY BLUE (1) goes off at 2-1 or better, bet it all on him to win. GOOD LUCK

SOCAROO (4) should win Race 4. He woke up in his last race, first try on dirt, after 13 losses on the grass. If he runs back to that effort, he will be hard to beat. Gulfstream Rainbow 6 Carryover Passes $500,000

Gulfstream Park will have  a carryover of $506,539  on its Rainbow 6 on Sunday.

Gulfstream will have a 2-race card with first post of 12:00 p.m.  The Rainbow 6 will be on races seven through 12.

On Saturday there were 16 tickets with the winners of all six Rainbow 6 races.  Each received $14,263.40 on the  20 cent only bet.

Meanwhile, Gulfstresam added almost $100,000 to the carryover.

The carryover has been growing  because Gulfstream has gone nine straight race days without the Rainbow 6 jackpot payoff requirement of just one ticket with the winners of all six races.

The jackpot  consists of the entire carryover plus 80 percent of the day's new bets on the Rainbow 6.

Here is what happened Saturday, under the rules for days with multiple Rainbow 6 winning tickets:
*The carryover coming in was $408,732

*Bettors added $407,623 to the pool

*Gulfstream took out 20 percent of the day's pool

*It divided 56percent of the day's pool among tickets with the most winners (in this case, as usual 6)

*It added 24 percent of the day's Rainbow 6 pool to the carryover.

Going into the 12th race there were 45  live tickets.  Two of them had a single, and if either won the ticket-holder would have taken down a jackpot of about $725,000.

But  singled horses Second Street and Modern Tale finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

The 6-5 favorite Conquest Sandman led at every call and won the 1 1/16 mile turf race, for $16,000 claimers 4-years-old and up.

The winning combination was 6-11-1-8-1-6.

The only winner at more than double digit odds was Biloxi Bay, at 15-1 in the eighth race.
--Jim Freer

Two Tickets Have Singles in Rainbow 6

The  12th and final race is coming up at Gulfstream.

There are 45 live tickets in the Rainbow 6.  Two of those tickets have a  horse singled.

One ticket has Second Street (5) and the  other has Modern Tale (11).

If either horse wins, the ticket holder will take down a jackpot of about $730,000.  Otherwise, the carryover for Sunday will grow to about $500,000.

Dream Dancing Our Pick in Suwannee River

The $150,000 Suwannee River is coming up at Gulfstream, for fillies and mares 4-YO and up.  It is the tenth race with nine starters.

Our picks:

1  -- Dream Dancing (5)

2 --  Kitten's Roar (9)
3 -- Elysea's World (8)
4 -- Dream Awhile (4)

--Jim Freer

Rainbow 6 Grows by $407,000

He Takes Charge (6), at 6-1 odds, won Gulfstream's seventh race to start the Saturday Rainbow 6 .

The carryover coming in was  $408,372.  Bettors added $407,623 to the Rainbow 6.

That created a pool of about $816,000.  Gulfstream had guaanteed that the pool would be at least $750,000.   Thus, it will not have to put any money into the pool.

*The Late Pick 5 begins with the eighth race.  There is no carryover coming in.  Gulftream has guaranteed that the pool will be at least $400,000.

*The Late  Pick 4 begins with the ninth race. There  is no carryover coming in. Gulfstream hs guaranteed that  the pool.

The ninth race is the $300,000 Gulfstream Park Turf (Grade 1) at 1 1/8 miles for 4-YOs and up.

The tenth race is the $150,000 Suwannee River Stakes (Grade 3) for fillies and mares 4-YO and up.

Stay tuned for coverage.

Front Row Debbie. at 9-2 and with John Velazques riding his fourth winner of the day, won Friday's seventh raee at Gulfstream--starting the Rainbow 6.

The Rainbow 6 carryover coming in was $332,098.  In keeping with Gulfstream's semi-huge wagering for the current meet, bettors added $316,672 to the Rainbow 6.

Velazquez's only  remaining ride today is on Village Express in the 12th race. That horse is trained by Todd Pletcher, long known for using Velazquz as a go-to rider.

We will be back shortly with more information on the Rainbow 6 and more on the rider known as "JohnnyV."

The seventh race will be  the start of the Rainbow 6, with a carryovrer of $332,908.

Bauer's Bets: Fast & Firm at Tampa, Friday's Play Of The Day

The play of the day comes in Race 4. SALEAS (6) woke up in his last race under red-hot bug boy Jose Bracho, making up ten lengths in a rally from last to fourth. Bracho stays on and this five-year-old gelding has the best late pace in this field and should be rolling late. Bet $10 to win on SALEAS (6) and a $3 exacta box with ROYAL FLAME (8).
Also bet $3 doubles with SHE'SADOWNTOWNGIRL (8), DIVA CHICK (9) and MUSIC BABE (10), in Race 5. Total Bet $25. GOOD LUCK

       Horses to Watch: Debut Edition
Horses to Watch is a new and regular HorseRacingFLA feature

Some of our “Watch” horses are coming off recent wins at Gulfstream Park or at Tampa Bay Downs and appear to be candidates for repeat wins.  Others had a recent race with a troubled trip and could be ready for a big effort next time out. We will report on when these horses will race again, and then report their results.

We will post Horses to watch in the news section of our Web site and in the Hoses to Watch section and in our blog, which can both be accessed on the menu bar at the top of the home page of this Web site

Gulfstream Park – Jim Freer
Heavenhasmynikki is the Ohio-bred filly that Ron Paolucci of Loooch Racing Stables wanted to make her career first start in a Breeders’ Cup race.

That was the Juvenile Fillies Turf last Nov. 4 at Del Mar. One week prior to the race, Breeders’ Cup stewards said “no,” citing the filly’s lack of experience.

So, the high-profile Paolucci turned to option two—a six-furlong MSW dirt race for Ohio-breeds on Oct. 31 at Mahoning Valley. She was sent off at 3-10 in the nine-horse field and won by 5 ¼ lengths in the day’s third race.  She earned a Brisket Speed Figure of 81—solid for a 2-year-old.

For a second start, Paolucci and trainer Anthony Quartarolo put  Heavenhasmynikki in a 6-furlong S75,000 optional  claimer at Gulfstream on Jan. 15.

It was the third race, with several horses that had run in stakes.

With Tyler Gaffalione riding, Heavenhasmynikki taced on the inside in the  stretch  and edged favored Toni Ann’s Miracle by a head.  At 3-1, she won in 1:10.81and earned a 92  Brisnet  figure
.
The  third start for Heavenhasmynkki  will be this Saturday’s Forward Gal (Grade 2) at seven furlongs on  dirt at Gulfstream. She is 6-1 in the morning liner in an eight-horse field, and has displayed a stalking style that could prove to her benefit.

Luis Saez, who leads Gulfstream jockeys, in wins, will ride Heavenhasmynikki. Gaffalione is staying with 9=5 morning line favorite  Miss Mo Mentum, trained by Mark Casse.

On Dec. 9 at  Gulfstream  Miss Mo Mentum won by 10 1/4
lengths in the Hut Hut Stakes. That  one mile race for Florida-breds was run on the dirt listed as sloppy.  Clear skies are in the forecast for Saturday.

*Paden overcame a pile of trouble to finish second in a 14-horse field in the 12th race this past Sunday, Jan, 28, at\ Gulfstream.

That otherwise non-descript $6,250 claimer as noteworthy in that it was the final race in the Rainbow 6 on a day when the carryover and the day’s bet created a poll of almost $16 million.

Paden was the 9-2 second choice.  He reared in the air at the start and was near the back of the pack until thr turn in the 6 ½ furlong dirt race.

The son of Cowboy Cal, began passing horses under Gaffalione. He continued his surge, even though Gaffalione lost his whip near the top of the stretch.

Paden finished second—1 ¼ lengths behind 36-1 shot Forest Gator who had been loose on the lead.

Paden trained by Michael Maker, likely  will be well-backed in  his next start especially if it is at $$6,250.

Even though the return might not be high, he could be a good Win prospect. And he should be a key horse in exacta ad
trifecta handicapping.

Tampa Bay Downs --  By Bob Bauer
Jo Jo’s Dream from the potent RalpZadie outfit (25% winners in Tampa) had a bad start and was last in a field of ten at the break, in Race 10 at Tampa on Jan. 27.

The five-year-old gelding then had to race from off the pace and really had no chance, and finished eighth at one mile on turf. This one has run his best races when able to get involved in the pace early, although he has won before without an early lead.

He was sent off (third choice) at 4-1 and clearly fits with $16,000 claimers. Might be really dangerous if he finds a field lacking early speed rivals.

Twin Channel gave a good account of herself in her debut in Race 6 at Tampa on Jan. 26.

This sophomore miss went in the gate at 42-1 under veteran Scott Spieth and led the field of ten fillies on a merry chase, getting caught near the wire by the highly regarded favorite, Scat Gal, and finishing second by a half length in the  1 1/16 mile turf race.

Trainer Stephen Lyster had Twin Channel     ready and with expected improvement this lass shouldn’t be a Maiden for long. She is bred up and down for grass, being the daughter of English Channel out of a Galileo  mare.

Bauer's Bets: Another Tough Beat with Some Success

Our choice GET A ROOM (3) in Race 1, got the job done. At odds-on we couldn't go for a win bet. Played $5 exactas 3 with 1 and 3 with 5. We got nosed out of the 3 with 5 exacta in a photo. One of our $5 doubles hit (the cheapest) we collected a total of $21. from our $25 bet, losing $4. The deficit is now $169.40

Gulfstream Fast and Firm for Friday.

The dirt track is listed as fast and the turf is listed as firm at Gulfstream for Friday;s 11-race card that has first post of 12:35 p.m.

The carryover on he Rainbow 6 is $45,097.  It is in races six to eleven. A new Rainbow 6 pool is in its third day. That follows Sunday's mandatory payout of a carryover that grew to almost $4 million over 39 days when there were multiple tickets with winners of all Rainbow 6 races.

The feature tenth race is a $50,000 optional claimer with a $52,000 purse, at six furlongs on dirt for 4-YOs and up.  There are nine entrants.

Among possible favorites are Yourdreamsormine, a multiple Gulfstream stakes winner now trained by Elizabeth Dobles and Rock and Feller, a Jorge Navarro-trainee and recent gate to  wire winner at six furlongs at Gulfstream.

Bauer's Bets: Dirt Fast Turf Good, 9 Races on the Card

Today's play of the day is in Race 1.  GET A ROOM (3) appears to be in a good spot under Antonio Gallardo. She is 5/2 on the morning line, lets hope for a decent price. Bet $25 to win on GET A ROOM (3) at odds of 2/1 or better. If not, bet a pair of $5 exactas 3 with 1 and 3 with 5. Also three $5 doubles 3 with 3, 4, 5. Total bet $25. GOOD LUCK
