Gun Runner Wins Pegasus, Goes Out on Top

Gun Runner closed out his stellar career on Saturday with a 2-1/2 length vistory over West Coast in the $16 Pegasus World Cup Invitational at Gulfstream Park.

Gunnevera, the local and South  Florida fan favorite finished third; 10-3/4 lengths behind West Coast.  Fear the Cowboy finished 4th and Seeking the Soul finished 5th.

Gun Runner won the 1-1/8 mile race in 1:47.42 on a dirt track listed as fast.

Florent Geroux  rode Gun Runner for trainer Steve Asmussen and onwers Winchell Thoroghbreds and Three Chimney’s Farm.

It was the final race for the 5 year old Gun Runner, as he logged his fifth win in a row -  all being Grade 1 stakes.

At a dinner Thursday night at Gulfstream Park, it was announced that Gun Runner  won the Eclipse award winner for 2017 and West Coast was the champion 3 year old.

Voting was done by a group of industry racing officials and racing writers and broadcasters.

We were among several media outlets that lost internet access at the track part of today, and – thus – will file more racing reports Sunday morning.

Thanks for your patronage.
