Turf Stakes Highlights Monday Gulfstream Card

By Jim Freer
The $50,000 The Vid Handicap, at 1 1/16 miles on turf, is the feature race on Monday at Gulfstream Park.

The Vid, for 3-year-olds and up, is the fourth race with scheduled post of 2:10 p.m.

First post is 12:45p.m. for the special Labor Day card.
The dirt track is listed as Fast and the turf course is listed as Firm.  The Weather Channel Forecast is for a 15 percent chance of rain during racing hours.

Six races, the even-numbered ones, are scheduled for turf with the rail at 108 feet for all of them.

Galleon Mast is the likely favorite in the seven-horse field for The Vid.

On Aug. 6 at Gulfstream, Galleon Mast rallied from fourth place after a half mile and beat My Point Exactly by a head in the $75,000 Eight Miles East Stakes at one mile on turf.   Galleon Mast won in the fast time of 1:33.36 on the course listed as firm.

My Point Exactly is not in The Vid.  But the field includes Keepthedreamalive, the horse that led through the first half mile of the Eight Miles East and wound up third—1 ¾ lengths behind My Point Exactly.

Tyler Gaffalione has the return mount on Galleon Mast for trainer David Fawkes, and Edgard Zayas has the return mount on Keepthedreamalive for trainer Joe Orseno.

We will have coverage on this blog.
