R Angel Katelyn Holds on to Win after Inquiry Objection

The Gasparilla Stakes win almost slipped away from the favorite R Angel Katelyn with an inquiry objection after drifting out twice in front of Jumby Bay while clear, but managed to get away with it and clench the win in 1:23.94.

Trainer Gerald Bennett spoke of the inquiry saying, "She was going fast and I think last time when she won she kind of did the same, looking for everything.  We haven't put blinkers on her yet maybe blinkers will help her stay a little more focused."

She was bumped at the start, but quickly adjusted and picked up her speed.  Bennett never seemed to break a sweat. He said "she will relax, her attitude she really doesn't care about anything."

R Angel Katelyn replayed The Sandpiper Stakes race, once again beating her rival Jumby Bay, trained by Todd Pletcher leaving a close gap between, but never letting her gain an advantage. Jumby Bay fought but needed more to catch her.
Edwin Gonzalez rode the young filly and she is owned by Averill Racing LLC, CCF Racing Stable and K Lauren Racing LLC.  She ran a good time of 1:23.94 and finished 1 3/4 lengths ahead.  Lirica,  the 3-year old Florida-bred finished third 5 lengths behind Jumby Bay.

The race was 7 furlongs on the dirt and the total Win Place Show pool total was $220,791. The charts are as follows below:
