First Dirt Race Goes to Wild Winter

Morning line odds favored 8-year old gelding One for Don out of New Jersey at 5-2 but Wild Winter stole the lead in the final furlong with a 1:25.45 first place finish.

The race was 7 furlongs ran on the dirt and had a purse of $10,400.

Mike Allen rode the winner and he is trained by Ron G. Potts. The morning line odds for Wild Winter were at 4-1.

Just when it seemed like Wild Winter was facing yet another third place finish like his last race December 16 at Tampa Bay, he picked up the pace, and flew past the two favorites, Dickens and One for Don, the second and third place finishers.  Wild Winter raced off the rail moved up three wide and drew clear for the lead with a 2 1/4 length victory over Dickens.
