Strong Handle Day at GP West

Through eight races, all-sources handle at the GP West meet is just under $3.4 million.

That puts GP West on track  for about $3.8 million, an impressive number for a meet of its scale on  nine-race Friday.

This comes as we are preparing a story, based on Equibase  charts, that shows this year's GP  West handle is on pace with 2015.

Handle is holding up amid:
*Three recent days when all scheduled for turf races  were taken off that  surface

*Delayed opening due to  the scare about Hurricane Matthew

*The  deplorable  situation at Calder, set up by Calder and its parent Churchill Downs Inc. It is hard to find a place to make  a bet, find a place to eat or shelter from the rain.

Obviously, the popularity of the Gulfstream brand is proving its popularity with the ADW and simulcast audiences.

Log in on Saturday for more details.
