Gulfstream: Carryovers on Sunday Program; Danessa Again, Gaffalione Shine Saturday

Gulfstream Park has an 11-race card on Sunday with first post at 1:15 p.m. ET.

There will be a Super Hi-5 Carryover of $5,383.59 on the first race.
The Rainbow 6 carryover is $41,185.45, on races six through eleven.

The feature seventh race is an optional  claimer for two-year-olds at six furlongs on dirt. It has a $43,000 purse and an optional claiming  price of $75,000.

On Saturday, the three-year-old filly Danessa Again won the feature fourth race, beating Formal Class  by  2 ½ lengths in a seven-furlong  allowance/optional  claimer,
Danessa Again won in 1:23.57 with Edgard Zayas riding for trainer Gilberto Zerpa.

The win was the second in four career starts for Danessa Again, a daughter of the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Blame.
Also  on Saturday, the hot jockeys stayed  that way at Gulfstream.
Summer meet leader Tyler Gaffalione  rode four winners on the 12-race card.  Luca Panici was on board three winners, and Edgard Zayas had two winners.

One of Gaffalione’s wins was the 999^th career win for trainer David Braddy. That was with the two-year-old filly Frye’s Leap in the third race.

As he seeks his 1,000^th win, Braddy has one entrant at Gulfstream on Sunday.  That horse is Willy Nilly in the third race, a $16,000 maiden claiming race for 2-year-olds at six furlongs on dirt. Gaffalione has the mount.

No trainer had more than one win on Saturday at Gulfstream.
The Saturday results left Gaffalione with 80 wins through 49 days of the summer meet that will end on Oct. 1.

Zayas is second with 51 wins, followed by Panici  with 44 and Emisael  Jaramillo with 42.

At Gulfstream, Zayas rode three winners on Thursday and five winners on Friday. Panici rode three winners at Gulfstream on Friday.

On Saturday, Jaramillo rode at Parx Racing in Philadelphia.  He had one win in five mounts.

The victory was on Delta Bluesman, the horse that was  the reason for Jaramillo’s trip to Philadelphia.
Delta Bluesman won the $100,000 Hall of Fame Stakes at five furlongs on dirt. Jaramillo also rode Delta Bluesman in his win on July 2 in the Smile Sprint (Grade 2) at Gulfstream.
Delta Bluesman is trained by Jorge Navarro, who is based at Gulfstream during the fall and winter and at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, N.J., during the remainder of the year.

At Gulfstream. It was somewhat surprising that Gaffalione, Zayas and Panici each had only one winner that was a favorite.
Gaffalione’s victory on a favorite was General Obvious, at 8-5 in the ninth race.

The race was a $50,000 maiden special weight at one mile on dirt for two-year-olds.

General Obvious won by 1 1/2 lengths  over Unbridled Holiday who  was 12-1 in the eight-horse field. General Obvious was clocked in 1:37.80, a solid time for a two-year-old in just his second race.

General Obvious and Unbridled Holiday both have breeding that indicates they should get better as the races get longer.
Dialed In, the late-running winner of the 1 1/8 mile Florida Derby (Grade 1) in 2011 is the sire of General Obvious.
Harlan’s Holiday, winner of the 2002 Florida Derby, is the sire of Unbridled Holiday.
Unbridled’s Song, winner of the 1996 Florida Derby is the maternal  grand sire of  both General  Obvious and Unbridled Holiday. Ronny Werner trains General  Obvious for breeder and owner Arindel Farm.

Two of Gaffalione’s winners were at 9-1.  They were Frye’s Leap in the third for Braddy and Wonder Frolic for  trainer Milt Wolfson in the  ninth race. Gaffalione’s other winner, at 5-1, was Unknown for trainer Oscar Delgado.
