Wednesday at GP West: Speedsters Head Mile Turf Feature

HorseracingFLA Staff Report

The Gulfstream Park West meet will resume its regular Wednesday through Sunday schedule this afternoon.

First post is 1:15 p.m. for the ten-race card. Gulfstream Park is holding the GP West meet at Calder under a lease with that track.

The feature ninth race is a $35,000 optional claimer at one mile on turf for 3-year-olds and up. The race has a $25,000 purse, and scheduled post time is 5:41 p.m.

It has nine entrants–including South Florida stakes regulars Golden Rifle, Joes Blazing Aaron and Padilla.

They finished first, second and fourth respectively in the $75,000 Eight Miles East Stakes, at 1 1/16 miles on turf at Gulfstream Park on Aug. 8.

All three have early speed, most notably Joes Blazing Aaron.

Concert Stage and Starship Zorro are the horses most likely to benefit if a speed duel develops.

Concert Stage has been in the money in each of his last 12 starts, all in claiming or optional claiming races on turf at Gulfstream. He finished second in each of his last five starts. He is making his first start on the Calder/GP West turf course.

Starship Zorro has raced five times on the Calder/GP West turf–with two wins, two second place finishes and one third place finish
